  1. You can mannage without a bite alarm if your going to be right near your rod all the time, im one of those who only puts my bite alarm on when im cooking or making a drink, my first carp rod i brought was a shakspear zenith 2 1/4 test curve on a carbon blank, cost me around £50 not the best rod but i have spent more and got worse for the money its a winner. Without knowing what type of fishing it is your doing its hard to recommend a rod to you. The best way is to ask your local tackle shop for a decent rod at a decent price as they will direct you in the right way. (Dont forget to match the rod to the reel ie dont get a 3lb test curve with a reel for flost fishing and 3lb line or you are going to get trouble)
  2. so peter is it acle or ackle?
  3. they could being doing it to stop all the slow breaking down baits that encourage disease and the like, Sweetcorn was one i was told that breaks up real slow and encourages blue-green alge i dont know how true it is, also some pellets are very slow to break down, my local club has a rule that if it dont wriggle it dont get chucked in unless its on your hook and that includes loose feed
  4. could be anything but if use windows 98 and have over 512mb of ram that could be the problem as i had with one of my systems, it turns out win98 has a memory leak that kicks in over 512mb you could try downloading something like ram optimizer or as an alternative you could goto www.pcpitstop.com and run their tests as they seem to find out most things that wrong with my systems
  5. from those silly vending machines they DO have a use by date (maggots are usually bad before then anyway) they come in a big can about the size of a beer can, but they are packed with sawdust so you only get a half full or half empty can of bait, the worms you can get out of them are all slimy as well and no good for anything.
  6. quote: The are Incapable of sensing Pain or Fear, Because quite simply, they havn't got the mental capacity to. Ever seen a roach swim like mad away from a pike? do they do it out of fear or because they have just had some red bull and feeling energetic? Why do fish get spooked? is it because the are scared or is it because they like playing chase? to say fish dont know fear is wrong they obviously do or they wouldnt display those behavoiurs, as wether they feel paini dont THINK they do, i havent seen enough evidance to give either clam any real value so i sit on the fence on that one
  7. luckley my local gives me good pints nice and full very effetive, the tackle shops not bad too i pay £2.20 a pint and i think if i went in there and asked for a measure or 568ml of maggots id either get a kicking or be so humilated i wouldnt go back, keep it British is what my tackle dealer says and erm i agree
  8. i do the same i also do it with landing net handles as i have lost count the amount i have broke by lefting the net out of the water with a fish in
  9. i think the place you are on about is a place called Repps with bastwick its in between Potter heigham and the thurne mouth. Theres lots of reeds along the bank and a few fishing pegs there. The water is rather fast flowing and i found the swimfeeder is the best option (i use one around a ounce in weight) good for roach, bream, eels, rudd and pike
  10. theres some nice bream coming up from the end of Upton dyke on the thurne to the swimfeeder. (to get to upton drive into acle and as you pass over the bridge keep on going untill you come to the sweeping left hand corner take the right of here and follow the road straight up then you want to keep on that road untill you pass the factory on the right take nexrt right and follow the road down then youre there, also from that place is some big eels, south walsham broad for some nice roach and skimmers, and some very nice pike from horning after dark
  11. chesters they brought tykes old one m8
  12. id buy a day out fishing for around 10 disabled children
  13. i do shop around for some stuff, but to be honest you cant beat the local tackle shop i go there pay a inflated price (these guys have bills to pay and kids to feed) get my stuff and some very good advice wich you cant price up at all. If i find im having a hard month and i need tackle i try here first the gear is good quality, other than the bait and they deliver quiet quick as well oh they have a free catalouge as well as a saving scheme called scales well worth a look
  14. dont forget the tomatoe skins!!!!!! absolutly shocking
  15. i know that park mat, near there is a lake called the wishing tree, my auntie recently brought a caravan down that way im not sure if its on that park. What i do know about that park is theres a clubhouse a onsite shop hasting town just 15 mins away very peacefull, the lake is not massive but some of the carp are ( a few 20s) as i recall the lake has a day ticket even if you own a van on site £6 is what i paid for the day.
  16. i use meat alot on the local pond, what i do is use a stringer needle and push that thru the meat then hook your hook into the little nick in the stringer (with me so far) then use either a V shape bollie stop or a little bit of wild grass in the bend of the hook this leaves the point of the hook expossed and you can cast far with that method, i use a size 16 hook aswell. I used that method last night and caught 14 carp upto 6lb most under 2 tho and a nice 4lb bream and 2 tench
  17. what pole is it? dont worry just me being thick again. have you tried emailing DAM? or you could try their website www.damyl.com it wasnt working for me but it might for you [ 17. June 2003, 04:34 PM: Message edited by: rickster ]

Unfortunatly im the other side of the country so i cant take this offer up however i will talk to the better half and see what i can fix. Remeber guys give well, give this person a taste of freedom back again. Best off luck jane

  22. What do you want us to look for as i got one in the loft but not to sure of the year (is from around that time)
  23. Well what can i say about my night at wingham? It was very wet infact that wet that at around 7am we took refuge in the clubhouse.I think we was the only 2 that blanked on there but thats fishing. I'll defently be going back next year for another crack at those perch and tench but next year i will be better prepared and have some sort of knowledge about the water. For those who didnt go all i can say is you missed out on a spectacular water with excellent ammenities. Where else do you go where theres a shower for you to use a kitchen to make food and drinks and place for shelter in the adverse weather? Where else can you see unspoilt countryside at its best with all the wildlife. Where else can you go where the owner, tenent can tell you about every feature, bank, bars and the like in every swim on a 40 acre lake? I cant think of anywhere like that. One last thing which must go to the most knowledgable man i know on any water is a BIG THANK YOU to steve whos generosity was very much appreciated. (This man give us a lift to our doorsteps on sunday, gave us bait when we ran out gave us some invaluable information) Oh yeah steve book me in for next year!!!
