  1. I know what I would like to put in - The shoudavs who tell you when the waters fishing hard, "you should have been here (yesterday? last week? Tuesday? whenever) the fish were giving themselves up and the chap in your swim bagged over 100lb.
  2. Maybe I should put my original question diferently. I have always fished a flat maggot-feeder upstream but I am about to try this method of 'rolling along the bottom' or is there a better way?
  3. What are you gonna do when you run out of groundbait? use your hook bait - Which is?
  4. I have only two words to say to Mr Jardine - BUTT OUT!!!!!. I am represented by the NFA and BDAA and I don't need anybody else speaking for me thankyou!
  5. If I can just add a word here. I lived in R.S.A. for some time and used maize meal as well as maize grains. Maize meal is cooked with as little water as possible and becomes a 'porridge' like T.P. paste. The sacepan will look terrible, all burnt on, but put it in to soak and the 'burnt on' maize left will come of like a liner. The porridge must be kneaded like T.P. paste and can then be used like it. I have had fantastic results in R.S.A. and also here.
  6. Swans are never a problem until they are adult size but still with grey plumage, then they are liable to snag your line as they are still learning from mum but are very clumsy. It has always passed before, and I am sure it will this time. As to the language on commercial waters, we all obey the sign to dip our nets, why not a sign to watch your language as you are not alone on the water?
  7. sorry, got carried away. I've never blanked there , mate. My PB on the canal is an 8lb 12oz Zander.
  8. Sorry Diamond, I went fishing there Tuesday week ago and got three barbel, one of them weighing in at 9lb 3oz, my new pb
  9. Check with disability - if you make your waters (or a large part of your waters) disabled friendly you may qualify for a grant.
  10. bringing a fish to hand is reeling in
  11. cummon boyzangals, they look nice, but, are they polaroid?
  12. Can anyone help? I am about to start winter fishing in the severn at sandhurst. I thought I might try double maggot (on a 16 hook) with a ball sinker cast out into the middle of the river and allowed to roll round to the side in the current. Any other suggestions? Is this a good idea?
  13. Thanks Vagabond, I think I'll do just that next time, in fact I'll "help" him do it.
  14. I was approached at the waterside yesterday by an anti who claimed we were being cruel to MAGGOTS! I listened to him ramble on with a polite smile and when he was finished, I asked him if he liked eggs. He said he did and I then proceeded to explain to him that the maggots were bred on the carcases of dead "layers" and if he believed we were cruel to the maggots, then he will have to give up eating eggs and anything that contains eggs. That seems to have stopped him.
  15. I have only one word to say to anyone starting fishing again: ENJOY. I think you'll find some improvements in tackle (I'va seen a few in the 50yrs I've been drowning bait!!)
  16. I have been keeping some worms in a bucket with holes in the bottom. I started with a bit of potting soil laced with peelings and cauliflower leaves and keep adding food waste. When I looked today there were hundreds of little white wriggling "strings". Have I cracked it? Are they little worms or is my wormery doomed? PLEASE can someone let me know?
  17. If, as you say, you are pleasure angling, you will not be walking river banks etc. Use a chair as you can get attachments that will allow you to use most of the attachments you can get for a box, and this will allow you to sit and relax without having to jump up and down all the time.
  18. They are one of the best inventions i've seen, being disabled it was easier to buy pole rigs than make them (and a lot more expensive @ £2 to £3 per rig!!) but this works wonderfully and even I can make up my pole rigs.
  19. disabled final was held at border fisheries on saturday. I did not even stay for the results as so much was wrong.
