  1. Have been following this one with some interest. Finesse Fishing has long been an interest of mine and when I saw this one on e-bay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300674368928?ssP...9#ht_1980wt_891 it was inevitable that I should be £30.00 poorer! Turned up today, a real cracker but US rod & line rating never fails to puzzle me. Suited for lines to 1 lb b.s.? I doubt it! Personally I shall be using 6 or 8lb braid. Much of what has been said about trout applies equally to other species, been a good thread.Suit
  2. Even in 2012 lure fishing is not universally seen as a tool for the serious piker. Heaven knows why, it is a successful method. A few years ago Messrs. Wilson & Watson fished a location near to where I live for quite a few several day sessions, lives and deads. Eventually, having failed to catch and moving on, I moved in and within an hour I had her, just over 34 pounds. The capture was very public and the following weekend the would be glory boys moved in, not less than 50 deadbait rods aimed at one particular spot. That was despite two very fine anglers having failed on naturals and one 'unrecognised' lure angler having succeeded. By the way, I've had several thirties so no, it wasn't just luck!
  3. When fish aren't having it - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - stick with lures. Very often a pike will be provoked into taking a lure, whether he/she be hungry or not. I'd put money on being able to tempt with a lure, wouldn't say the same about naturals. What was the present British record caught on?
  4. One of the joys of pike fishing is that they are a fish well suited to those who hunt their prey. In other words go to the fish rather than struggle to get the fish to come to you. A small boat is worth ten bivvies when it comes to pike. However, if you must groundbait, minced carp!
  5. Well done, genuine. Have been involved with this one and unless something goes wrong not sure what the EA could do, regretfully. Budgie, the fish loss is localised. A tragedy that one huge perch has been lost but there are some very big ones elsewhere on the Broads, just that folk are understandably keeping quiet about the whereabouts and clues are about as rare as 20 year old virgins in Essex.

  7. Maybe, but not by me! Gladding, and even Shakespeare today, were not taken that seriously by the establishment of the day, bit of a shame really. Newark Needles were probably not the first good product to be overlooked, and probably won't be the last. For example Capta leads were nothing short of brilliant, but they too soon disappeared off the shelves.
  8. Maybe not! They do sit perfectly plus they are a doddle to un-rig and change. Never really understood why they were not the success that they deserved.
  9. Phone, not so, but not entirely unlikely, I'll grant you that. Angling is one mind-set, carp fishing is another, or so it appears in the U.K. Mind you, carp angling, although limited in application, is yet another!
  10. That a dad can not take his child angling, pitiful.
  11. Peter Stone - Angler, what greater epitaph can there be? It says it all, long may it remain.
  12. The Pound Shop sells a plastic gizmo to dog owners who want to lob their balls towards the horizon. Basically a flexible stick with a cup on the end, shaped to hold a dog's balls. Replace dogs balls with balls of groundbait, simple!
  13. Come up to Suffolk, half an hour from the end of my garden should virtually guarantee you several ruff. Probably a gudgeon or two too and maybe a minnow but no sticklebacks.
  14. If folk are bored whilst fishing then I can only guess that they are doing something seriously wrong!
  15. All of us get caught short at some time in our lives, that is not the problem. How we deal with it can be.
  16. There are also numerous complaints about anglers crapping on the banks of the Broads and leaving their waste, including bog paper, making no effort to remove or bury it. Disgusting and unnecessary. Having a pee is one thing, defecating on the bank, and leaving it like dog mess, is completely unacceptable and absolutely antisocial.
  17. John, true Norfolk Boys have the straightest family trees in England! At least your team is doing better than dear old Town!
  18. Aldous is about as much use as soggy bog paper, grrrrrrrrrr. Suggest that you make contact with the Broads Anglers Strategy Group, http://basgonline.org/
  19. Humphhhh, I'll have you know that we are the salt of the earth, no wot i meen, sunshine, or white?
  20. Frozen, Lidl cooked prawns have to be the best chub bait of all time!
  21. http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homea...;CatchmentId=91 And what river is Hickling Broad on? Let me give you a clue, it isn't the Bure.
