  1. Paul Thanks for the info. sad loss of CB, his stories were the first I turned to in Course Fisherman every month and that was the first time around! You may be right that Chris wasn't a member of Cov. circus sg, but they were active at the same time and it was the only way I could think of to jog peoples memories. To those who didn't read Chris's tailes, boy did you missout on the best of the best. You must be really old!........i'm far to young to rember reading about CB's exploits on the Severn, Lake Bala...his "Pike Valhala" article....and they way he took the ***s out of NJF!!!

  3. Coincedently there is a letter in P+P from Chris's mate "Barry the hat"......Chris died aged 72 in 2001. I'm not sure if he was a member of the Cov circus sg though?......wasn't that Andy Barker and co?
  4. Never mind....as one door closes another slams shut
  5. Well my money is staying in my bloody pocket with you lot about........what a shambles!!!!!!!!
  6. Night fishing is not permited on large sections of the Severn.......bivvys stand out like a sore thumb.
  7. Tony, I keep coming back to Daiwa Sensor for all my angling......i tend to steer clear of American lines now, those i have tried can be either great or rubbish but the thing that i find is that they seem to degrade suddenly....inbuilt? The Japanese lines seem far more reliable overall.....sensor is also cheap, i get mine in bulk spools at two (any BS) for a tenner....i use it from 4lb to 15lb.....i'm also trying out their infinity duo...but this is a IGFA classed line and it may be wise to step up slightly...eg i'm using 10lb were i would use 8 normally.
  8. you lot are partly responsible for my first eel session in ages.....you are also responsible for eel of 4lb 6oz and 3lb 10oz......i think i have the "way" again.......dunno wether to thank you or curse you!
  9. Oh well, back to the par boiled spuds!
  10. Cheers Clive, I used to spend a lot of time eel fishing and i'm getting the urge in a big way again......threads like this help!
  11. Fantastic thread!.....i have witnessed elvers leaving the water (river) so i have no doubts whatso ever that Clive is correct in saying that they can travel on the slightest of watercourses......i believe that as long as they can keep damp they can survive. Clive.....does your group have a web site?
  12. Chris, I fancied breaming on one of their waters but from what i could gather the car would have been at risk......are things any better now?...i don't blame the club for this but it does put off potential members. Regards Paul.

  20. As far as i am aware GTX cannot be reproofed..at least not if you want it to keep it's breathability, i have heard that some of the early MOD jackets had a problem so you may just have to put it down to experience.

  22. I used to run the canal towpaths, no angler ever offered to move his pole.....it is us who think we have a god given right at times......canals are the realm of many, they are perfect for biking, running and of course family holidays......i don't fish them because i don't like sharing the water with so many, we all have that choice......but others have at least as much right as us on them. Oops going off at a tangent......i'll not sign the petition!

  24. AJP, I'll go further and say that a lot of them aint ever caught anything on a river with a float, find the swim (usually someone elses!) bang in the bait and catch what is an easy fish to catch (in the right conditions!) and hey presto a barbel expert is born!! ;D
