  1. Hence the old saying, it's raining cats and dogs. And frogs.
  2. --> QUOTE(Norm B @ May 2 2006, 10:46 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> A great rod, top of it's range in it's day, I still have a 484, a slightly heavier, pokier rod. You should still get 100yds plus with it. You may or may not get more with a new rod, it depends on your style. It would be worth keeping and getting another rod as a back up. Try a few of your mates rods to see what you get on with before you buy. As Norm has said, a great rod in their day, so was the Hardy Longbow and the Cod 4-5-6 and many others. I still have my old 484 up in the loft but wouldn't fancy using it these days, not after using modern rods. Compared to modern material of today and with rods such Zziplex, Conoflex and a few other top brands being so cheap, the old rods are well past their sale by dates. Bit like driving an old car. Nowadays you can pick up a top of the range fishing rod for about £250-£300. If you feel that's a bit expensive, you can buy a blank and build your own, or you could look out for a good secondhand one. Sometimes there are a few Top range rods on Ebay under £200.

    ID cards

If your still going to need a Driving licence a Pass Port a NI number, an ID card issued after the war, what the hell do we need another ID for??. Also Pin numbers for this, pin numbers for that, account numbers for this, account numbers for that, share numbers, user IDs etc etc etc. I agree that one ID card, one unique number, to cover everything and anything would be suit me fine, i could dump the rest.
  4. It don't matter weather you are a paying passenger, or on a free trip. Skippers, like car drivers have a duty by law to make sure all passengers or crew are safe. A few years ago two well know local experienced anglers were fishing on board a boat called Purdey. This was a largish fully equipped fishing boat. The skipper was Dennis Haymen. His mate fell overboard when the wash from a large ship hit the boat, he was drowned. Dennis faced a manslaughter charge. I can't remember the outcome of this tragedy, maybe CJS..AKA Cliff Stone can elaborate on it. The skipper is responsible for all crew and passengers, must be covered by insurance and must make sure that every safety precaution has been taken to prevent accidents. I think this also includes excessive drinking of alcohol. Also the boat should be licenced to carry paying passengers. Not much different to the driver of a car, you are responsible to make sure your passengers wear their seat belts, the car is road worthy, not carrying more passengers then it's seating capacity etc etc. Injuries to passengers are at your risk. THIS IS WHAT I HAVE BEEN TOLD.
  5. Quote The solution isn't to increase taxes to pay for this, but to make radical decisions now to abolish handouts from the state and run the country like -most- other modern european countries (and for that matter the states). It will happen, probably when the nation turns to another political party (most likely conservative) to sort out the bloody mess labour have gotten us into! It's nothing to do with the goverments they are all out feeding their own pockets, have been for years and we sit back like a load of ***** and let them do it. all wasters. IT'S our own faults for sitting on our arses letting them all get away with it. All we do is moan and groan to each other, never take any action like the French for example. Instead we retreat to our little brick boxes, switch on our TV's to watch another episode of Coranation Street or East Enders and hope everything will sort itself out and just go away. That's never going to happen, people in this country are easy picked targets to get ripped off by anyone, finance companies, loan sharks, insurance and mortgage companies, credit cards etc etc etc and that includes the goverments. They know we have no guts to fight them.

HAHAHAHA Stevo, you can have a dry wind you know.

    Her we go . . . !

    Coaster..Sunspeed81. 1.5 Thornycroft, 3 litre an hour @ 2500RPM = 6 knots, with a clean bum. Zero expense at 9knots+ with a stiff wind...LOL
  8. It was meant to read REFUSE??? Never mind.

    Fuel

Nothing is fair in this country these days.
  10. Very true Stoaty, but not possible on my boat, if it was, i'd have done it mate.

    Fuel

LOL Marlino, never got enough coinage mate. I do drive, and def not an MP Like you, I have back trouble, disabled, blue badge, full mobility, new car on it's way, no road tax etc etc So only got the fuel to worry about, and at 50+ mpg and limited use the cost of fuel is not a problem. If there was less congestion i would be able to get from A-B quicker. I probably use most of my petrol sitting in traffic jams. Double the price, no better still treble it
  12. If you hit a deer, you will need more then call the RSPCA, you will want a recovery transporter, and then contact your insurance to try and replace your write off. I hit one years ago at 35mph, driving a Vauxhall. It smashed the whole front of the car beyond repair.

    Fuel

I think it should be more expensive, at least double. Would help get rid of some traffic congestion, and encourage more people to make use the public transport. Also it would put a stop to the lazy beggers that jump into a vehicle just to drive a mile into town, or less to the shops/schools etc.
  14. Far better off and much more healthy to beome a refuge collector.
  15. I would feel much more at ease if i had an AUX on my boat, unfortunately she can't be fitted with one. I do have sails, so all's well ends well should i ever get a major problem. Minor troubles can be sorted at anchor, hence the Aft cabin looking more like a fully equip workshop. Failing that, i guess the dingy might come in handy as a tow boat, but fitted with only a 2.5 HP motor, and trying to pull over 6 ton, i doubt if that would do much good. Point is, ive seen many a boats around the 25-30ft without sail or Aux engines fitted and often wonder how they would get on. I guess it would be a case of, making use of their radio, IF they have one.

    Her we go . . . !

Hi guys. Thought i would chuck my oar in at this one. I'm like Cliff, i like the comfy bits. As some of you know, i own a 30ft Motor sailer. We use it for long weekend trips, fishing etc. She's not a speedboat, but a one hell of a sea boat, so a bit of rough weather won't stop us from taking a trip. As for economy 3 litres and hour its peanuts, then with a good blow, up comes the sails, sensational feeling, all free wind power, and complete tranquility. We don't bother to much for the one day, get out and get back trips, ours usually last two three days, what the hell is the hurry. Nothing better then kipping on board, breakfast in bed, a good DVD while the hooks lay baited on the sea bed waiting for the fish. Rain or shine, cold or hot the boat is equipped with all the home luxuries. We can spend a week + popping from one place to another along the coast, all for a few quid on fuel. It's the wine at dinner times, that cost more money, BURP GULP BURB, top up my glass
  17. I sort of gave up smoking 4 weeks tomorrow. Went onto Nicotine free herbal tobacco. Was easy and no craving, even though I'm taking no nicotine into my body. Just goes to prove to me that the statements made that it's the nicotine we crave for in cigarettes that makes us addicted to smoking, is a load of rubbish. Now according to my GP, my body is free from the drug. I get a pat on the back and in his book I'm now a non smoker. So why do i still smoke this herbal stuff, which they claim to be non addictive. Do i feel any better? well i haven't noticed anything yet.
  18. Surely the only reason less woman make claims is because there's less woman drivers. Must agree with everyone, that all insurances should be the same for male or female.
  19. Seems like it's better to keep your mouth shut. http://technology.guardian.co.uk/news/stor...1737001,00.html
  20. Up the Butt, down the Butt, Long rods, Short rods, Fixspool, Multi reels etc etc etc. Once you get into the trap you will be forever changing from one to the other. Stick with what you like best, just because Tom-Dick or Harry likes it one way, won't make it the best way for you. Personally i have just returned to a shorter rod with the reel up the Butt, after 3 years with a long powerful rod and a reel down the butt. Nowadays the shorter rod is far more comfortable and my distances as good, if not better. At the end of the day, ask yourself a question, are you FISHING or out on the field casting and remember, they are two very different sports.
  21. Dammo. Your distances are very good. I go to a few Tournaments, never to compete only pi55 about and have a laugh. Far too old now for the big distances, burning 6o candles and disabled i can still chuck a lead pretty well, it's all the walking to get it back that beats me. I'M down to 200 on a good day, 185 with a Fixspool, and like you, all on standard tackle. Will be at Bircham again this year with some of the lads on here. At my age i have no intentions to try and beat any of them, just enjoy it and try my best. I love to watch the guys hitting for the horizon and can tell you mate, some of them would be more then happy with 250+ yards. Sounds to me like you could do very well with the lads out on a field, give it go.
  22. Not into tournaments as I can't chuck far enough, and I get bad "oche bottle"! Get out there my friend. There are a lot of guys that can't cast your distances. Anyone hitting 257 yards and and you say more at times have a place on the oche, that's a good casting distance by anyones standard.
  23. Yes they were the days when you could leave your windows/doors open without fear of intruders. Could ride a motor cycle without a crash hat. Could smoke anywhere, at work, in shops, on trams and trains. Pubs only opened at certain times and closed at 11pm. Most shops closed on Wednesday PM, and closed all day Sundays. Industry was booming, and back by unions. Punishment for crime was stricter. Respect to others was a way of life, even the kids said please and thanks. People minded their own business. Kids played games on the old Asbestos dumps. Lead paint was used every where. DDT was found in all the cupboards and Dads shed along with other items such as Airguns, sheath knives etc. All this and we are still here, healthy and out living a lot of the later generation AND there would have been a lot more of us had it not been for the war that took so many lives. THE GOOD OLD DAYS.
  24. Well done Gaz, better man then me. I tried Zyban for 4 weeks, never help me one bit. I'v got the urge to stop but no will power to do it. Never mind...maybe i'll try again oneday.
