Do Pike have anticoagulant in their saliva?
MikeConnor replied to Chris Plumb's topic in Coarse Fishing
Chris[/qb] Fish do not produce saliva as such. This fucntion is largely restricted to land mammals, who require saliva to aid mastication. Fish do not masticate. This may be of help. Sorry, that should read "This function is largely restricted to land animals..............." -

Personally I consider polaroids absolutely essential for fishing. They cut down glare, enable you to see into the water, may prevent headaches, etc etc. I wear clip-ons, over my normal spectacles. I can not imagine trying to fish without them.

It is normal to "play" fish like stream trout etc, by hand. The reel is only used for storing the line. With other types of fish, it is essential to get the fish "on the reel" as soon as possible, as playing by hand is more or less impossible, ( salmon, bonefish, tarpon etc ). Broadly speaking then, it depends on the type of fishing one does, whether one plays "by hand" or "from the reel".
