Hi Ken No problem with live baits on any beach BUT its a challenge when using big strip or dead baits and need to get the baits out as far as possible. Then its a case of ebbing tide and getting as high as possible ( rocks car roof anything) and violently shaking the rod up and down. Where 14ft rods are really useful. Good anchorage ie 8oz grip lead is a must. regards bronzie if your not in a hurry for them Slaphead ( member ) is off to Namibia soon and i am sure he would bring some back for you.

Hi Dont know of any suppliers in UK but if you check out www.kingfisher.co.za/Swivels.asp there are pictures showing 4 types of non return link. Easy to make they probably will post you some. Used them and they work. Heres a picture of a ROOSTER Fish caught whilst using one. Dave Milne is the angler and Rooster caught July in Costa Rica regards bronzie
  4. I have been lucky enough to catch and see many sharks and this one is not over 60lb. Still a great catch in UK waters.
  5. --> QUOTE(Norm B @ Jun 9 2006, 10:06 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Which side of C.R. are you operating from, Atlantic or Pacific.? Flying into Liberia where we meet up with a local very keen beach angler. Then we chase the fish. 4 x 4 fishing gear and sleep where we can. Pacific / Carribean wherever the fish are biting we will try for them. 17 days non stop fishing. We intend to go wherever. Totally unknown destination beachwise but we believe huge potential. Could be the trip of a lifetime or not. Time will tell. But we will give it our best shot. Usually a bait angler but have bought 40 plus lures rod reel braid plus my bait gear to explore the possibilities on offer. Really want to catch a Rooster Fish and Cubbera Snapper so 100% effort for 17 days. Then evaluate and if possible offer to beach anglers. If not tell it how it was and try elsewhere.
  6. Hi Dale Firstly i ended the relationship with Terence for reasons indicated below. Regardless of what may have been communicated to you. Yes Terence is continuing as an independent guide. Mola Mola UK is also continuing BUT warning all prospective clients of the situation regarding fishing in Namibia. As you discovered the fishing in Namibia was well below the expected situation causing many adverse comments from clients. Plus Terence has increased his prices to such an extent that he not a saleable option. Also many clients are of the opinion that the fishing there has priced itself out of contention. Fact only 5 Bronzies over 100Kgs caught by clients during the 6 month season. Previus clients have exceed that on a per person basis in a week. Then guides up their charges by 25%. In fact i explained the situation to Terence quite clearly that there is a limit to the amount of money clients are prepared to spend on a trip and his demands push the price up to a totally unacceptable level. Plus of course if the fishing is as poor next season then more unhappy clients who will have spent even more of their hard earned cash. Only time will tell if the fishing returns to normal thats why i`m off to Costa Rica in the hope that i can offer a better cheaper beach venue with guides who do not think anglers have huge wallets. After 7 years in Namibia i am in a position to offer guides equal to and maybe much better than Terence at a much more realistic cost. Not all Namibian guides are greedy and unrealistic with their charges or alledgedly living on past reputations. Happy to answer any questions from anyone. regards bronzie
  7. These fish are also caught on the African beaches of South Africa Namibia and Angola where they are known as Kob or kabeljou. 20 Kg plus specimins caught every year wit the the biggest i`ve witnessed of 28.5Kgs. Very similar ( but bigger to European Bass). However in Africa they are usually caught on bait not lures. Fanatstic fighters and taste great too.
  8. Top quality multi tip beach rods availble from South Africa. Purglass Blue Marlin or Assassin. Best travel rods i have ever used. No comparison with telescopic rods but serious rods capable of being used anywhere in the world. Usually 5 section ( Butt mid and 3 tips) 12 to 14 ft long. Come with a protective tube and mine has travelled thousands of miles no problem. dont know if theres a supplier in the UK of Blue marlin or Assassin but Purgalss avalable over here. Reel down as standard on these rods casting from 4 to 8ozs plus. regards bronzie

  13. Hi Keiran Thanksfor the info. Wire on order and fortunately we have a local beach angler guiding us. I have also ordered a species book from Amazon. So everything nicely covered i hope. look forward to tackling the rays / sharks got just the gear for them South African 14 ft Assassin and a Saltiga 50. But i really want Rooster Fish and Snook from the shore. But i`ll take whatever bites. Thanks again regards Bronzie
  14. Were heading out 17th July starting in North West area and headimg wherever we hear fish are. Have rods will travel!!!
  15. Old Abu`s not worth a lot. Not much choice back in 60`s 70`s for beach rods so most of us bought the 464 or 484 or the Cod 5 or 6 and no doubt many are still laying around in garages lofts etc. I still have a pair of 484`s not been out for years. Best rods of their era but that was a long time ago.
