  1. Hi Ken Keep the animal blood away mate! it's totally unnatural and will not benefit the fishing in any way! mackeral, bran, oil and a couple of unmentionables will make the ultimate rubby dubby....and before any of you ask ingredient 'x' its not baby dolphins...... If you are interested we could do a day after blues / porgies whilst in Alderney. I visited an awesome spot last year although it was a bit of a steam - 165nm from Lymington and about 75nm from Alderney....all big fish though (porgies)...possibly my most best charter so far....We estimated the biggest fish @ 300lb+
  2. Morning, a certain Skipper here..... If you mad lot want to try for a Thresher off the shore your best bet would 'Kite' fishing from St Cats on the Island or St Albans Head on the Purbecks... This 20 miles of the South coast is one of the only known Thresher breeding areas in the World let alone the UK. The record was caught by Steve Mills from his own boat somewhere off the Nab. There is very little interest in Sharking any more, I have been asked to do only 3 trips in 05, although there is a very dedicated band of Privateers on the Island who really know there stuff, problem is you rarely here anything of their captures. A chap called Alan Deeming released 3 in a day last year (there was a small write up in BFM I think)one the fish was estimatd to exceed the record. We see them occasionally smashing the water to pieces they are truly an awesome fish and one species I am determined to aquaint myself with. Then it's off to get a Mako...that might take a bit more doing though....! John...If you want to try for them I suggest a new 50W Tiagra and stand up gear to match, the big mums can go upto 700lb...!
  3. Tides.....It all depends on what your fishing for doesn't it....? Big Cod, I think your statement was a bit sweeping...! Rob T.
  4. Morning, I think we can safely say that my mate has got the wrong name...not a problem at all. Jabee, Have that one, it's fantastic - there is a great piece about Toping from the shore at Sowley, Mr Stoker fished with Ken Baveridge who was one of the old guys who taught my dad to fish when he arrived from London with a tank aerial in the sixties.... Jim, Do you know Mr. Stoker? Would be honoured to speak with him, not just about books but the fishing. Rob. Catch update: The wrecking has started to get better and better with the arrival of clear 'Blackwater' out in the middle, Cod also showing which is quite surprising because it is a little earlier than maybe expected. Best So far was 24lb on Saturday. Bream are appearing inshore and we took had them to 4lb 5oz on Sunday...and also a male of 3lb 11oz...what stunning fish they are.
  5. Morning all, Many thanks for your help. I love old sea fishing books, I spent what seemed like hundreds of hours staring at pictures of Clive Gammon, Trevor Housby and Co. as a nipper...in fact I still do today...! Salar, Are you refering to 'Inshore Dinghy Fishing' as found by Bill (above) or was yours by Hugh Stoker...? Cheers Rob P.S..I've asked all around about the supposed I.O.W Tuna, I think that was a little far fetched but my fingers are still crossed anyway...however the Herring story is certainly true. I noticed masses of bait appear over the last week whilst off wrecking. I had an inshore trip Sunday and mentioned it to the crew who like me had never caught Herring, they all wanted to have a try too so out came the Sabiki rigs and tiny pirks. On the way home from a very successful days Congering we tried from 6 miles off the Needles and as close a a mile and caught herring every time we stopped. Scaled, Spilt, Floured and Fried served on toast with a little mustard they are bloody lovely...
  6. Hi, I wonder if any of you with a little more knowledge of searching the web than my basic Googling can help me find a list of angling writer Hugh Stoker's published books. My dad has a fair few but a friend has just mentioned a title that I can find no reference to. It's called 'Inshore Dinghy Fishing' or so he says. Would love to get a copy if it was ever written. Thanks in advance Rob
  7. Hi all I just wonder if any anglers from the south hants area or I.O.W can confirm or deny that a monsterous shoal of herring appeared at the eastern end of the Island in the last week...I've had two calls in a matter of minutes saying the same thing. The interesting bit about this is that there are also rumours of a trawler picking up two tuna in his net...as with these things though the weights I have been told have ranged from 40lb to 460lb. Any info would be appreciated. Regards Rob Electric Bluefin Tuna Charters
  8. Don't worry John, CD is safe and sound.... (translates to) copy burnt and also on my Ipod. Very good it is too. Rob
  9. Hi all Was great to meet up again with John and Paul. And a pleasure to meet Ken for the first time As I suspected the fish did have other things on their mind. Namely sex.... I was back out towards the end of last week a couple of times and there was a marked improvement both days. Only a couple of the wrecks had decent numbers of fish on them but they have certainly stopped spawning, all egged out and are eager to feed. We also had a heart stopper moment on Friday, one of the guys had a pollock of 14 1/2 lb, I was stood watching it come up and as it came to the net a Bass I would estimate at around 16lb followed it right to the top a started charging it....the thing was trying to eat the 6 inch storm shad dangling from the now bellied up pollocks jaw!! Needless to say the live bait tank is back aboard and ready a month early... Spaces available this Friday, if any of you are interested. Rob Electric Blue
  10. Hurst Hole and the Shingle Bank is an excellent venue to target Cod, not may people do these days but the big bait anglers certainly do catch. As much if not more chance of some lovely Bass from the same marks using the same tactics, just a lot closer in... The Deep Water part of Lepe, about 5 miles further up the Solent, is also another cracking mark. [ 08. November 2004, 10:50 PM: Message edited by: RobT ]
  11. Hi Scot I was about 3 miles SE of the Needles. My boat Electric Blue is a Lochin 333 with a flybridge. If you fancy a trip out check out the link below: http://www.deepsea.co.uk/boats/electricblu...notes_board.htm Rob.
  12. Morning, For the Alderney trips I leave from the Marina. There is very good secure parking available and it is free for the duration. Regards Rob
  13. The cod are certainly appearing off the Needles, More fish are being landed day on day. The best I know of is six in a tide last Sunday. My best day has been 3 aboard and we had a 23lb 12oz fish on Saturday. This is certainly one of the biggest landed so far. We are only just into November and I'll expect the fish to be here until the end of Feb. If it's of any interest we are also catching loads of eels from the cod grounds too. Not bootlaces either, the average size is 30lb+ with 50lb+ fish being caught most days too, far better fun than dogfish...! Rob Electric Blue, Lymington
  14. What a complete and utter load of Twaddle... Rob Charter Skipper
  15. Hi Davy Any of our b / s are available through UK stockists, because of the distinct lack of demand very few outlets carry anything above 0.46mm (55kg) this very popular with the pike anglers for jerkbaiting. What are you after and on what length spool...? I'll certainly put you in touch with a stockist who can help. Rob API And yes it's more expensive than in the states....zzzzz
