  1. hi yakety how ya doin?!? thought of you today we were sat on the beach at altea, watching two guys fishing from yaks around a reef that is about 200mts offshore. just too far to see if they were catching unfortunatly.it was 36c in the shade today, and the sea was as flat as a kippers cock, so they were paddling about quite slowly!!i saw a company advertising yaks in a mag here.www.omei-kayak.com its in spanish obviously, and the english translation is awful!but still, worth a nose.sorry to read about all your wind and rain, we now have to wait till sept normally to see a drop of the wet stuff!!!har har!best wishes.
  2. i saw some barmy woman i used to do some work for once, poke the end of a cylinder vaccume cleaner up to the hole where the wasps go in and out. great plan. after a few minutes she turned it off.the wasps then proceeded to leave the cleaner the way they went in.only now they really were a tad ****** off. cant remember how many stings i had. last time i worked for her!
  3. yoxer. you would be amazed what a difference it makes to wake up every morning with sun streaming through the window.bleedin marvelous!!!
  4. great stories!nice to read something that raises a laugh!!
  5. everybody on here must have a good story of the one that got away. heres mine. i was boat fishing, i had been with some friends catching mackeral off straight point, exmouth devon. we caught enough and headed back towards exmouth. on the way we decided to use up some old ragworm we had, and anchored up off sandy bay, no more than 6m of water, we were catching dabs, no problem when all of a sudden, my friend june, had a violent take, and the rod jammed against the back of the boat, which prevented it dissapearing overboard.she held on for dear life, but theline literally hissed through the water as it emptied off the spool at a terrific rate.there was no stopping whatever it was, and it took the entire spool of line before the line broke, thankfully at the trace.i was there with my arms around her, helping her hold on to the rod it was that violent.god knows what it was, we saw nothing, and afterwards were just shaking.this was a few years ago now but it is still fresh in my mind.bl@@dy ell!!!
  6. hi yak, its not just in the u.k that people appear to be taking a new interest in yaking. one of our sea angling monthlies here have a big spread on it, plus ive noticed adverts starting to appear in them from various suppliers. ive never had a go myself but it looks great fun.cheers, best wishes.
  7. hi diamond, ive just been having a nose through one of my spanish mail order catalogues, and they have 9 pages of rapala lures.they do appear to be cheaper than the u.k prices. probally too late for your trip, but worth a nose when you get back. the company is called..alverez armeria, tel. 902 10 55 00. fax 902 20 55 00. http://www.armeria-alverez.com e.mail pesca@a-alverez.com they are in madrid.dont know if they have many english speakers, most companies here do, if you get them to send you a catalogue, there are order forms in the back to just fill in the ref. numbers, easy peasy, have a great trip. best wishes.
  8. hi newt and nightwing, just want to say thanks for the trouble youve taken, helping me with this. much appreciated.best wishes.
  9. hi snatcher. a good place to find out what species are found in malta, is to get in contact with any of the scuba diving operations there. malta is famous for its diving they would have a lot of info on their websites ,for sure. best wishes.
  10. thanks newt, now you mention it, it is easy to identify them with eye placement. ive been going through one of last months fishing mags, and from what i can see they appear to be smallmouth. next time i can get off to fish for them ill have a good look.best wishes.
  11. hi yak, next time i see some guys using the `goo`, ill try and get a good recipie from them. best wishes.
  12. good pictures newt, thanks.hi budgie, the smaller ones ive caught here look more like small mouth, but the bigger ones look more like the bigmouth bass in newts photos!?!?! i think the local habitats have a big part in affecting their colouring. most of the fishing mags here dont differenciate, theyre black bass and thats it!best wishes.
  13. hi newt, im no expert, but i think theyre the smallmouth variety, i came from england so i had no experince there of them, but here i would say that they are the most sought after fish that swims in freshwater!they are found from the north to the south.there is a huge competition every year, based on lake caspe, last year teams from over 70 countries competed.i belive your lot won. pure luck of course!!!
  14. hi newt, seems a shame to me that there dont appear to be any bass in waters in the u.k, well not at present anyway. it does look like they were there in very limited numbers, in a few waters in the past. we have`sheds full`of them here in spain,a lot thrive in waters that get a lot colder than the u.k in the winter, they are incredibly popular, maybe because there are so many ways to catch them, or maybe because they spend as much time in the air as in the water when you do hook one!!?!
  15. float fishing for mullet, and lure fishing, both from the breakwaters.(when im able to sneak off from work!)also freshwater for blackbass.the kayak sounds great fun! best wishes.
  16. hi yakity, buenas tardes! is the sewage outlet still in operation at straight point? if it is you could always try a bit of bogroll on the hook for the mullet!
  17. just another example of the disgraceful gutter press, that exists in britain. an appalling slur on the guys that are putting their lives on the line in iraq.piers morgan is a disgrace.
  18. nice one dan i had one like that but her legs were fatter.....lots fatter!!
  19. sorry lads i meant to put budgies post in quotes, at the beggining of mine! i told you i was new at this lark!black bass arent just in the ebro, they are widely distributed all over the country,i was just curious whether somebody had managed to set up a fishery in the u.k thats all. i havent heard any reports myself. i know diamond geezer knows what fun they are, i remember seeing a picture of a tiddler or two he had caught a while back!!!
  20. hi everybody, just curious, are there any waters in the u.k that have black bass in them? sorry if this has come up before, but im fairly new here.cheers.
  21. shes got a cheekgoing out like that!!!
  22. must agree that this is very effective, especially on estuaries like the exe.sorry youre laid up with a bad cold, i would have thought it would have taken more than a cold to keep an exmouth lad down!!!
  23. with reference to the girl with the tape....tape or no tape, marks out of ten i`d give her one!!!!
  24. norrie, i know how you must be feeling. i was working as a commercial diver back in 93, for a u.k government, training school.we had just a few days notice that we were to be laid off,we ended up with a pittance, because of reasons that i cannot go into, and it all seemed very black. it was then we decided to leave england and start a new life in the sunshine in spain. as they say, as one door closes, another opens, i wish this b@stard had opened 20 years ago!!!! chin up mate.
