  1. Name dropper !!!!! Yeah, but I was in the UK when I snapped it, what a great buy that telephoto lens was!
  2. Well at 2 for 20 quid you certainly have got yourself a very good price. I've never heard of them, but surely you can't go wrong at that price. I used budget rods for years, the one problem I maybe had was sometimes losing fish close in as the rods were a bit too stiff if the fish went on a sudden surge and either the hook would pull or the fish would "bounce" off, this could be got around by loosening the clutch and not being too impatient playing a fish. I certainly caught many decent fish & had several years good service outta my 1st carp rods, which are still in decent order & now stored away in the garage. Are you new to carping Murph???
  3. Is it just me, or has anyone else been sat there, under your brolly/bivvy in the lashing rain trying to keep dry & warm up & you're just thinking over & over "I hope I don't get a run now!" I suppose the plus side is that the odd time you do get a run in such conditions, you tend to forget how wet & cold you are whilst you're playing the fish, especially if it turns out to be a big 'un!
  4. Snapped posing quayside in Dinard, France.
  5. There definitely seem to be more Magpies around. I mentioned on another thread that I don't see as many Chaffinches as I used to & someone mentioned the Magpie problem then. It's not just the birds they're terrorising, I saw this one chasing off a cat last week!
  6. Hurry up with your review matey, I can't wait, am I the only one looking forward to The return of the Jedibond? Use the Fork Luke!! (I bloody love Star Wars BTW)
  7. Good bait that wizards_cuff is using there. Still getting bites after 5 months. I try not to take the bait, but even more importantly, I don't feed the trolls! (shoots himself in foot posting it on this thread though - that's me off to Hopspital.
  8. Dazler has got the Quattro Pod & I must say It's not only a nice looking piece of kit, I'm impressed with how stable it is. I know Daz is very pleased with it. But, tell me Tbone, I'm not familiar with the X-Pod Plus, why is it you're looking to upgrade? Regards.
  9. Thanks for the link Elton. Thankfully I've not come across such a scenario myself, but it's useful to know who to report it to should a fishery fall victim to this.
  10. I know I asked for pictures, but that's just showing off Ray! Great fish though, plus it looks a nice stretch of water. As for me, my next session is likely to be towards the end of the month as I'm signing off tomorrow for just over two weeks for a quick jaunt over to France. Sadly I'll not be taking my rods. I hope you all enjoy watching the carp spawn whilst I'm gone.
  11. Thanks for the link Nightwing. I think, giving my lack of dexterity, I'd have to buy them ready tied. At least using one of those might scare the ducks/coots/moorhens off!
  12. Ahem, cough cough, sorry about that, just clearing my throat, right, here goes. Has anyone got any PICTURES? Please, come on, some of us are confined to barracks! I've forgotten what a Carp looks like. Get your pics out for the lads!!!
  13. Sounds a terrific way to carp fish Nightwing. Just to help me get my head round it, could you please post a piccy (or a link to a piccy) of one of the Crayfish patterns you use. I'm interested to see just how big your fly (or is it classed as a lure?) is. Cheers
  14. How does it work, this fly fishing for carp mullarky?? Do you do all that backwards & forwards casting stuff? As we all know, carping can be a bit of a waiting game, you couldn't keep that casting up all day could you? I will just add, I've caught MANY off the top, bread (a 20lb'er on light tackle ) & more than you can poke a pole at on chum mixers (well the Lidl equivilent) so I know full well that floating a bait on the top is a very exciting way to fish. But, how does Fly Fishing for them compare to throwing out a controller & surface fishing for them?? Is it better/more productive?
  15. Not me like, I just post on here, but those that know their Carp from their Rainbow, have you caught anything? Craynard, you must have beaten your PB again by now?? Somebody please post a piccy of a fish they've caught this weekend, I'm going stir crazy.
  16. I don't know about brilliant Jim, but it was certainly a conversation stopper! Nobodies posted anything for over 24 hours. Is everyone OK? Maybe you've all gone fishing? Lucky devils, I've got jobs to do so no fishing for me this weekend.
  17. Sorry Newt, but I can't help you. I've only caught carp up to 20lb & nothing even resembling those monsters. If I were to hazard a guess I reckon they would put up a good initial burst, but then tire & be more of a deadweight. But, as I said, that's only my guess & no offence intended to you guys who have caught 'em. I'd also be interested to know how they fight.
  18. Jim. Apologies for my slightly barbed response last evening, drinking chardonnay & posting on message boards are not a good combination. So forgive me, just as I have forgiven those who have syntaxed against me. As for the baitboat/smartcast debate. I have to admit that I was being somewhat mischievous when I questioned why we have baitboat anti's amongst us. I thought it would get a bite. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I don't own either & at this time have no desire to. If pressed I would go for the smartcast ahead of the boat, they certainly provide some interesting feedback. Dazler makes an interesting comparison with, amongst other things, Bite Alarms. It's not too many years ago that I didn't use them & vowed never to buy one of the cursed things. Now I use them for all my ledger fishing, so who knows, in a year or two I may also have a baitboat - we could have races with 'em Daz! Regards.
  19. Now there's a decent tip for next time.
  20. Jim I find it slightly strange that you've used quotation marks to accredit me with two phrases I've not used? Just where are you quoting me from? As for your final paragraph, well, thats baitboat owners & caravan users duly labelled in Jims world. If you always judge people so easily I truly hope you're not really a Justice of the Peace? If you are, God help us! Regards.
  21. Funnily enough Dazler, (of these parts), pointed out a Chaffinch to me on Saturday, well to be precise he said "Look at that bird!" & it happened to be a Chaffinch. I don't know what the rest of you think, but I don't see as many Chaffinches in the UK thesedays as I used to. Has anyone else noticed this????
  22. Bugger  , at 6 this morning I was torn between a Tree or Meadow Pipit. Keep 'em coming though ayjay, I'm enjoying the pictures & honing up my bird ID skills at the same time. I've gotta get me one of them scopes!!!
  23. Couldn't agree more Jim, well said mate, but I think an Excerset Missile would be better. How about creating a remote controlled Submarine with Anti Bait Boat Torpedos??? It's interesting to read the anti-baitboat comments. Can you guys explain why you resent them when it would seem you use/accept another of the gadgets available in the Smartcast? I don't have a baitboat or a smartcast & at the moment have no desire to own either. However, my pal has both & I've found it interesting having a dabble with them. For my money I see them both as slightly unnecessary, almost like cheating (a bit like pole fishing ) but each to their own etc. But why pick on one gadget & not the other???? (BTW Polly, that would be Exocet Oh & Jim, it probably is legal, if it's your own baitboat & you've got the appropriate licence. ) [ 26. April 2005, 10:14 PM: Message edited by: rabster ]
