  6. Thanks everyone. I've got my date for the MRI scan now so will wait until I have seen the specialist and know how bad my knee is.
  7. I have also got a claim for loss of earnings on the go at the moment. The Insurance company representing my employers are trying to get out of paying out, as they would, by amongst other reasons my return to work for a couple of weeks after my initial injury. I was in a union before but was not happy with the representation I was given, they were always more concerned with trying to keep the managment happy to keep our jobs secure than to fight for what we wanted them to. But as Huge says don't tar them all with the same brush. Thanks for the advice
  8. I had an injury at work last year and have been on the sick since. I visited the works doctor and he accepted that I was unfit to do my job but has informed my employers that I would be fit to return in a different department doing basically the same job I was doing without any climbing in and out of jigs. I have a sick note from my own doctor but work have requested I return. I am waiting for an MRI scan to find the extent of the damge to my knee and to assess if an operation is required. I have made an oppointment to see my own doctor later this week to have a chat about returning to work and whether I would be wise too. I was wondering if anyone had been in the same predicament and what did they do. I could do with returning to work for the money but where would I stand (or fall :0) if my knee gave out again or I got reinjured. Thanks
  9. If he is the only one that can set up the machines that should give him a bit of leverage with trying to sort out a contract. When we were pushed into a contract that we didn't want we were advised by the Union to put in a written statement saying we did not accept the new terms and conditions but were willing to give them a trial period. This apparently gives you a get out if you don't like the new working arrangments. We were also led to believe that if we didn't accept the new t & c we would be entitled to redundancy as our old contracts were being terminated. I don't know how true this is as the management changed their minds once the entire workforce had done this. I think by law you have to have a written contract stating working hours, wage, holidays etc and your employer has to give you one within a certain length of time. If he can get hold of a copy of the working time directive (I think) it should all be in there. ACAS don't really help an awful lot in these situations, they are more of a mediator in my experience.

  11. Ken Yes Kazaa and the like, although Kazaa is notorious for mislabelled files Car boot sales are very good for music and the cd, or even better album, is usually only a couple of quid We also have a couple of record dealers at local markets that are reasonably priced and they sometimes have picture discs [ 09. 12. Ah yes, back when music was music Try one of the peer to peer networks for some of the hard to find stuff. I had a very good record collection stolen many years ago, I have managed to find a lot on cd, even some on vinyl , but the harder to find comes from peer to peer

  15. I've caught on a lake full of swimmers and dogs, one of the carp even swam under a dog while it was hooked. I read of a lake where a herd of cows used to drink from it, the fish weren't bothered but as soon as an angler approached the fish scattered.
