  1. Have spoken to Huw on many occassions, this is shocking news. Best wishes to his family and friends. David
  2. Brookbank is up your way I believe, might be worth a try or get yourself along to the Outdoor Show at the NEC or the London Boat Show, have a look on the relevant websites to see who'll be attending. SM
  3. Hey Bill, Great article, please feel free to post on the AnglersAfloat Message Board and I'll make a sticky out of it, may have copyright issues placing it on the Safety Pages. SM
  4. Don't have first hand knowledge of the Silva, but have heard plenty of those that have had bad experiences with them, I would save your money and buy an icom or Entel, the icom is used by the RNLI so has to be good. When purchasing that each watt in power is equal to 1 mile line of sight contact, so worth buying 5 watts or more.
  5. I agree with simon, if you have a Carlisle 2 piece then upgrading to a N12 Lendal will be of little benefit. A glass blade and cranked shaft would see more benefit. The Nordkapp is a big blade and pushes a lot of water, fine for a days fishing, but if your putting in a lot of miles, you may find the Kinetic Touring less tiring. SM
  6. Volusian, I've paddled and pedaled a few sit-on-tops and the main problem with the wet arse comes from the paddle water running down and off the shaft. Having paddled the latest Kaskasi to arrive on British shores, the Pelican, I was determined to try and get some water on board to see how the new Scupper sytem worked, not easy on a very dry yak, but even with her dryness, there was still a small amount of water under my bum, this had dripped from the paddle shaft. The other issue is paddler weight, I don't suffer with a wet backside in either the Tarpon 140 or Prowler 13, but those that have tried them do, an extra stone in weight can make all the difference as can paddling style. If you really can't stand having a wet bum then maybe you should stop paddling and start Pedaling, the Hobie Adventure doesn't suffer with a wet backside and nor do the other models, this is probably due to the fact that you don't need to use a paddle therefore no water falling into your lap. Please remember though you are partisipating in a watersport, you must expect to get wet. SM
  7. Well just got off the phone to my Pike Fishing buddy and we are now going to give it a try on Sunday as the river is tidal we are up for a V.early start, oh how I like early starts at the weekend Just praying it doesn't rain to much before we get out there. Good luck to everyone that is still fishing, the KFDU boys are suffering with severe weather as well I believe, so they might well be pleased about the postponement. SM
  8. Good luck Martin, I'm hoping to still get out but a little later in the day than normal as the forecast gets a little better late morning. Are you going out with GB and Stu?
  9. Thanks Simon, been playing on my mind all day, listening to the news reports and New Years Eve events being cancelled all over the country, then driving home from Guildford, there was a lot of branches down all ready, some quite large, Father Christmas was vertical on our porch roof and that was the final straw. The event is suppose to be fun and it isn't much fun when lives are at risk. David
  10. It's been a very hard decision to make, but with a severe weather warning across the UK and the winds already building across the south, I've decided to postpone the UK side of the tournament. For those that are able to get out safely, safely being the key word, your catch will still count. For those that are unable to get out due to the severe conditions, the new dates are 13/14th January as next weekend looks as bad as this. Sorry for the lateness of this posting, but have just been out for the day and witnessed the damage that winds are already causing. If in doubt, don't go out. SM
  11. Mikeb, Sound to me that you need a couple of cleats to keep the trolley in position, I use the CL213 and CL214 on my prowler as shown here : http://www.anglersafloat.co.uk/Prowler_AnchorTrolley.htm
  12. Bit of a colour clash, but that's what Lava Lamps are all about, ain't it
  13. Nice job Darnsarf, you going to get a horn as well with all this fog about I'm surprised that Richi wants one, thought this would be more his style
  14. Karl K , sure you'll have a lot of fun in her, drilling holes is all part of the fun but gets in the way of the fishing, so the sooner you start the sooner you'll finish and be able to get out and land your first fish. Sm
  15. Blimey no rain, we've had load, then loads again, rivers are well swollen, was hoping to have another bash at the Pike over Christmas, but not much point. Hope to get out a bit after Crimbo, was hoping to get out Saturday evening, but another party seems to be getting in the way of that, why can't people be more considerate and have parties during the morning
  16. If facing the right way, could mean an easy paddle back, propeller assisted
  17. What state are the Broads in after all that rain, you might find you've got more chance of a Cod. Let us know how you fair with your eskimo boots SM
  18. Awsome, getting my appetite well and truly wetted, be glad when Christmas is out of the way and life can get back to normal. Might even get some fishing done. SM
  19. "total numpties with a flyrod (Not you Starvin!)". MJB, I'll be splashing you with me paddle next time I sees ya balanced on a rock Kayak Fisherman Quarterly (free with orders from Hook1) is a great magazine, it's put together by several of the main kayak fishermen in the USA, all who run their own shops or guide services so are very knowledgeable guys, they also accept articles from outside of the states, hopefully Spanner's Skate article will have found it's way on the pages, as have several articles from Wales, written by myself and Simon. Producing a quarterly magazine could be possible, but it would take a lot of work and commitment and would need contributions from several authors, as well as a means of collecting payment, either through advertising or cover price, this would be required to cover the cost of printing and distribution. BASS have a quarterly magazine, it would be interesting to know how much that costs to put together and mail to the 2000+ members. It's a very interesting idea. SM
  20. Like you say OKReally, nothing will hurt them more than blank advertising space Somebody mentioned Dave Lewis, I have corresponded with him on numerous occassions, yes he is very interested in kayak fishing, I believe he has a Tarpon 140 for just that purpose. I'm surprised that we haven't seen it in Sea Angler, but seeing how Russ has no interest in the sport then that may well be the reason. I have seen this negativity before when I first started AnglersAfloat, most of the kayak manufacturers and distrubitors had no interest in Kayak Fishing, said it would go no where, there was only one that saw the true possibilities and I for one am thankful for their foresight. They continue to support the kayak fishing community and now others have started to follow. Well done Johnson Outdoors and thanks for all the fish SM
  21. Have to say that I've been very disappointed with Sea Angler over the last few months, so much so that I no longer buy it, they're ignorance of our sport and lack of willingness to even find out more amazes me. Ah well there's always chucking a lead across a field to write about, now there's a nice safe sport...
  22. Argyll you'll be surely missed by your friends on this forum, RIP Gerry. David
  23. You'd have to watch yourself in Thailand Phooey, better take the test before you consider it further : http://www.dr-joe.net/shemale/index.html# Dem boys dey got da bobbies
  24. I'm amazed, nobody has suggested Wales, plenty of great fishing including Tope, the locals are mostly friendly but you may need to learn another language especially if you choose the far south. Only a few hours from England, they drive on the left, you'll be able to get English cuisine. The beer is the same as over here but a lot cheaper. You get to have a dragon on your car. All Welsh women look like Catherin Zeta Jones. You can still shop at Tesco's. We can all come and visit Anyway what's wrong with Bordon SM (sorry lied about the women) Damn it, didn't read the second page
