Rabbit, Thanks for the kind offer of meet up on the Avon, I may just take you up on that next summer, I am a bit of a novice at river feeder fishing but I really enjoy it, it's pretty much non-stop action even if a lot of fish are on the small side, but such a variety of species. I know bugger all about stick float fishing. I had some great days at Ham pool, the secret is to only fish at dawn and dusk, that is essential, hard on the bottom for tench, very light tackle and just an inch off the bottom for roach. I once saw a guy catch a 3.5lb perch there and I myself hooked and lost the biggest pike I have ever seen on an ABU spoon. This was before they built that 'peninsula'. Not sure about crossing the A419, maybe at 3AM on a Sunday morning if you're really quick

Rabbit, Thanks for the reply. I am not much interested in Buscot, if I remember it is a weir pool and I'm not keen on static lure fishing. I prefer to travel light when lure fishing, cast and move, that kind of thing. I like to walk a mile or two seeking out the fish. The gravel pits they used to have were huge and I could walk a good way but it seems they have lost access to Bradley's pit (140 acres) which would curtail that a bit. They still have Hill's pit, equally big, but only from one bank. I am glad to be back, but I miss the Warwickshire Avon. Not sure what this bit means mate: "I still long for those 'halcyon' tench filled sbuscot Fishingummer days" But thanks again, Ian edit: I think the riverside tackle shop is now a pub, if you mean the place that used to hire boats run by a dysfunctional family, bloody boats were deathtraps

Thanks very much for the fast reply Steve. Actually I was once a member of SCAC and I am now back living in this area, so I may consider joining again. I see on their website that they no longer have the fishing rights for Bradley's pit which is a shame. I had a look on their website and although they say have a stretch of the Thames they don't mention where it starts or where it finishes, or which bank. You don't happen to know do you? I guess I could always call into Cotswold Angling in Swindon and ask. I'm sure there must be free stretches around the town, I guess I need to ask in the tackle shop. Thanks again, Ian

I fancy a bit of lure fishing this winter on the River Thames in the Lechlade area. Does anyone know which stretches are free fishing? Or which clubs own which stretches? Any help gratefully received.

Jan, easy there tiger. Rabbit should have responded to this but for once in his life he is quiet. Asda is also called Walmart here. As for the bit about homicides in Walmart car parks (or parking lots...whatever) I have no clue what he is waffling about there. Seabrooks? I am not keen on all these overpriced yuppie crisps, Walkers ready salted for me any day. That clip reminds me of sitting on the seafront in Tenby last summer where a seagull became a friend because I had fish and chips and he was catching the chips I threw in mid-air. Very good thread Ken L, thanks. The best whisky I ever had was a bottle of Laphroaig Quarter Cask I once bought on holiday but the cost is very prohibitive. I bought a bottle of Asda own brand Islay malt for £14.98 today - anyone any opinions on this one? (I guess I could always taste it!) Here's one non-migrant UK angler who enjoys the odd pike. A fish of about four pounds from the river, filleted, the line of bones up the middle of the fillet removed, pan fried, delicious. Why? Because there are lots of them that size in the river, they taste good and I sometimes like to have a purpose to my fishing which is why I often go fly fishing for trout.

Scatman, Day tickets are rare on the stretch I mentioned. RDAA has it all pretty much sown up...you could always join of course Do they allow night fishing? Do they allow boats? Do they allow night fishing in boats? I dunno, you need to read the web site mate, I don't have time to do it for you I don't know much about the Bath/Devizes end of the canal I'm afraid. Good luck.

Scatman, The Kennet and Avon between Newbury and Reading is very good fishing, the canal and river sometimes join together. There are definitely pike in there, not sure how big they go though. A lot of lakes in that area are controlled by Reading and District you might want to have a look at their website for lake rules although it must be said night fishing in boats is very unusual. Ian

Elton, Well done mate. I see newer cams come with built-in 30Gb hard drives. I got a 2Gb stick from ebay for £10 and this is all the memory I need. I believe they now make 4Gb cards but you may want to check compatibility. As I mentioned before, once you have the mpegs on your computer they are very easily edited with Kate's Video Cutter.
