  1. Good luck Mr W. We'll behave. Promise. Unless Hatton wins, in which case I apologise in advance for any drunken typing that may go on. It will be huggy stuff, I promise.
  2. Booger me, Wiggles. That's bad karma - only just seen what's happening to you, pal. Fingers crossed that Ian can get your tower humming again. Have you got all your pics etc well backed up?
  3. Bad business Mr W. What sites have you been visiting?! LOL
  4. Hi Nogbert I'm sure that someone on here can help. I'm not sure if any cameras (compact or DSLR) can take rapid shots in self-timer mode. I may be wrong. I have a DSLR and if I needed to do this, I would have to use a shutter release cord, rather than the camera's inbuilt self-timer, which I think would only take one shot on each occasion. Having said that, a year down the road and I'm still learning about how I can program my camera.... Not very helpful, I'm afraid. Hopefully someone in here will know. Update Nogbert - look here - this is the pdf manual for the camera in question - pages 69-73 deal with self timer and continuous shooting. It doesn't answer your question 100% but seems to say to me that you could use self timer and continuous shooting. It might be best to get into a local store and ask for a demonstration before you purchase. Finepix manual I found this review too, which you might want to take a peek at. Review of S5700 ATB. 5. Hi John Not masses - but between 20-30 per day. How it would cope with hundreds, I don't know, but it 'learned' what was not intended for me almost immediately, with no mistakes either. I may have just been lucky, though.

  7. I could narrow it down to about, maybe, 30 or so shots. To get beyond that, I'd have to start drinking 24/7 to give me an alternative reason for the constant headache.

  9. Just another thought - I'm using Cloudmark anti-spam - costs about £15 a year, but it's filtered out 100% of spam for me. It's excellent in my book: Cloudmark
  10. IanR / pumphypete You rock. Thank you. All done. Phew.
  11. I had a sore throat, so I thought I'd better update it. Thanks for your help, bud.
  12. Cheers IanR and pumphypete for your help so far. I'm at work now, so I'll give your suggestions a go tonight, Ian. Fingers crossed...
  13. Cheers for that. Got the latest Quicktime installed now, but still having trouble with itunes. Looking in add/remove programmes, there is no mention of itunes... ? In program files, there is a file for itunes and ipod, but I can't delete either.. If I try to install itunes 7.5, I get the following error message: Error1905.Module C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesMiniPlayer.dll failed to unregister. HRESULT -2147220472 and Could not open key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\...\InstallShield_{BE20ELF5-1903-4AAE-B1AF-2046E586C925} Arrrggghhhhhhhhh.
  14. Thanks Ian. I'll probably opt for a complete uninstall of both Quicktime and Itunes and then try reloading first. One question - if I make a hash of that, if I set a restore point before I do this, would I be able to roll things back if it all goes the shape of the pear?
  15. Hi Ian I am logged in as Administrator, but as for your second question, this is where I am a tech numpty. Quicktime was pre-installed on my PC when I bought it about 3 years ago. I've not twiddled with it before now. I've Googled and the stuff it comes up with means nothing to me - tinkering with registry and the like.
  16. I have been trying to load itunes 7.5 (my current version is 4ish) and have been having problems with the installation. I thought the problem was with Quicktime - it needed updating too, but no joy. For some reason, I though it best to uninstall Quicktime and then to start from scratch. Now I can't load Quicktime or itunes 7.5 from the Apple site. I keep getting the following message when I try to download either update: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Quicktime. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel. Help! I'm running MS XP SP2. I am not tech. minded. As you can probably tell.....
  17. Welcome back Ollie - look forward to seeing your photos in the comp and Pic of the Day.

    Photo Of The Day.

Great shots HB, as ever. I like the toilet roll dispenser on the back of the quad bike. Nice touch. I'd certainly want some of that handy if I went airborne on one of those things.

  21. Sounds and looks like you had a good trip, Den. A very handsome bird that you have photographed there. Look forward to seeing some more pictures of your holiday! Westie.
  22. Hi John - I'm a Nikon user too - I have a Sigma 30mm f1.4 - dof can be tricky (and fun) with that. 50mm f1.8 gets rave reviews for the price. Be interested to see what you think of it!

Hi chapman. Welcome to the forum. Stick around - it's a friendly place. With ISO, you're right - the same as film speed. The higher the ISO, the grainier the picture becomes, but also the higher the shutter speed you can use to avoid blurring your shot. With macro stuff, movement of any kind will ruin the shot, so if using the camera hand held and in bad light, you'll need to up the shutter speed and ISO will have to go up to compensate, unless you use flash. Usual rule of thumb is to use a shutter speed of the same equivalent as the focal length. If the focal length was 100mm, say, on a DX camera, that would equate to 150mm, due to the 1.5x crop on the sensor. That would usually mean a shutter speed of at least 1/150th second to get a non-blurred shot. That will probably push the ISO well above 200 to enable you to use that shutter speed and expose the picture properly. Likelihood is that your camera will do all of this for you automatically, but if it has a manual mode, you could experiment. Another alternative is to use a tripod, so that you take away motion blur from camera shake. This would allow you to get ISO down to 100, but with a longer shutter speed/exposure time. If you are photographing still subjects, it might be the way to go? You could use the self timer too, to avoid shake from prodding the shutter release. If you don't have a tripod, you might be able to rig something up, to brace the camera. Post up some shots! There's some people here with huge knowledge. I'm still wet behind the ears. Westie.

  25. I like the uncropped versions - no. 1 is probably my favourite. Nice capture, sir.
