Am I the only one on AN that has no sympathy for the waste of space named 'George Best' ? Everyone I have spoken to about him in the last month or so agree it's all self inflicted & have no time for him whatsoever. Would the media be so interested in any other chronic alcoholic who p*ssed his own career up the wall ?? Shame the liver was wasted on someone so self destructive. GOOD RIDDANCE I SAY

I have an Epson Perfection 2480 that scans negatives. It's all automated & will produce a 'normal' image to your Photo editing software, no need to mess about. I bought the scanner specifically because of this feature & am very very pleased with it ...

I was a very happy person. My wonderful girlfriend and I had been dating for over a year, and so we decided to get married. That's rather a sweeping assumption that anyone using a P2P network is going to be downloading copyrighted material. Since when ? Perhaps you're not aware that it is perfectly legal to make backup copies of any digital media for your own use the same way you would make a tape recording of a vinyl LP you can make a duplicate copy of a CD or DVD. It becomes illegal if you then try & supply that material to a third party without a distribution license, be it one copy or one thousand copies.

Check your settings in your browser - it's more than likely that either your browser isn't checking for a new version of the page each time the page is loaded or that your ISP is caching pages I don't use Firefox so I wouldn't know where these settings are - have you tried it in IE as well ?

In order to have access to the edonkey network you have to connect to an edonkey server - you cannot connect via a third party proxy server. In fact edonkey needs direct access to a specific port, if this is refused you will get what is called a 'LowID' which will restrict your access to shared files from other users across the network. You can change your port settings in options in case your ISP is being naughty & blocking certain ports

Not true - by the very nature of how Edonkey works you are sharing the file as soon as you have the first part of it. Edonkey breaks a file down into multiple parts (a bit like WinRAR splits files into parts for you) & it's these parts you download from each individual user, you cannot just 'leach' from the edonkey network. So you ARE sharing the file as soon as you actively start downloading it. Any P2P program does not mean you HAVE to download copyrighted material. Many legitimate 'shareware' files are freely & legally available on P2P networks, in fact some download websites like download.com & tucows have links to files shared on P2P networs like Edonkey, Bittorrent etc ...

As Si says Emule is by far the better ED2K client. Personally I use Emule Plus http://emuleplus.info/ The beauty of emule/e-donkey is that it doesn't rely on one server (like SoulSeek) & can therefore not 'be shutdown' It's by far the most established P2P network & is great for archive files as well as new ones. Because a dynamic IP address is assigned to each individual user when you dial in, generally as a 50:1 ratio. This means that IP addresses are assigned as you log on i.e.; there are 50 available IP addresses available on 1 switch & they are served out in order of 1st come 1st served. Therefore it is less intensive on the server to allocate IP addresses ad-hoc Static IP addresses are reserved specifically for you & are only assigned to you each time you dial in. Dynamic IP servers only need 100 IP addresses for 100 customers connected at that time. Static IP addresses may need 1000 IP addresses to connect 100 people at any one time if all users are not connected It's the same as reserving a seat at a theatre & not using it, that seat could've been given to someone else on a 1st come 1st served basis I'm not saying they are the cheapest, I am pointing out the difference ...
