  1. Hi Jaffa, the book is the best read you will get on Bass fishing, although now it is a bit dated. Look for it 2nd hand on Amazon. They mention mass migration of rag, if I remember, it was said that because of so many worms, millions, floating in the sea, it wouldn't be much good fishing , the fish would be gorging themselves. It's a great book though, you can learn a lot from it. Just looked on Amazon, they have it new for £13.96. It only comes in hardback [ 10. April 2005, 09:31 PM: Message edited by: kentangler ]
  2. Cod are OK, but not a patch on Bass.
  3. They do it every year. Mass migration during spawning. This is mentioned in the book Hooked on Bass.
  4. Jim, not a towable boat surely. I don't remember having to spend lots of money on my boats. If you buy something like an Orkney 16 for about £2500, and it's in good nick, you won't have to spend much more will you?
  5. 12 foot two section beachcaster. One year old, perfect condition. I am changing it for a three section like my other rod so they will fit into the boot of my car, otherwise I would keep it. £20. Plus postage. If you live anywhere near Maidstone, I would deliver it free. Don't know about postage, or who handles packages 6ft long.
  6. Ziggy, there are two 'r's in correcting. Ahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! I love you too Ziggy! [ 06. April 2005, 10:10 PM: Message edited by: kentangler ]
  7. Looks like the result of a mishap with a knife while having a pee!
  8. Can't give a scientific explanation about why these fish are still behaving in a normal way, but global warming is a certain fact. It's in early stages at the moment, but will accelerate. Trigger fish are now common at Chesil beach.Other warm water species are moving in. I think the habits of Flounder and Bass will change. 25 years ago, would you have expected to catch Bass in November and December? I think not.Now it is common. Cold water species are in decline, ie. Cod. 1400 scientists have just finished a worlwide study lasting 4 years. Their findings show that we have changed the planets systems more in the last fifty years than at any time in mans history. That is scary. Fifty years is like a nano-second compared to the age of the planet. Their findings also strongly suggest that the trend is irreversable. Even more scary. When you consider that China is now powering up to become another manufacturing super-power, with massive increases in greenhouse gasses, you can see the problem is going to get worse, very quickly.
  9. Hi Young Fishing Neep! Just a point I would like to make here. It's great that youngsters enjoy fishing, and want to participate in an angling forum. However, I think some members would not be aware that they are conversing with a youngster. It would help if there was some sort of identifcation with a youngsters post so that we all knew that they were for instance under 16. I'm sure that this would help. None of us should really be offensive on this forum, but it inexcusable to be offensive to a youngster, who we should be helping. I also think in view of some posters attitude, that they should be banned. Let's have some fun, have a laugh, and help others with their angling. [ 06. 10. What! Who turned the lights on? Have to agree. However, we only care because of self interest. In other words, we don't catch many fish anymore. When there were loads of fish in the sixties, we were not aware that trawlers were taking too many fish. If only the fish stocks had been properly managed when there were healthy stocks, we wouldn't be in the mess we are in today.
  11. Agree, Agree, Agree. I have been considering packing it in. Why don't we all make an effort to be NICE to each other. I may be as guilty as some others. It sort of pulls you in when you see a dispute. If we see a thread going bad, let's make a comment to stop it, or make a note of the offenders, and report them.
  12. In Kent, we have strong SE breeze, and a strong possibility of snow at the weekend. Think I will stay indoors.
  13. Skippy 41, I am infamous on here for correcting peoples spelling. I also don't care. Do you read any angling mags, books, articles, web sites. When have you ever seen a fish called a Makeral? It completely confounds me when people who claim to have a hobby or interest, cannot even be bothered to look up the correct spelling of a species that is part of their hobby. Would you post on a forum for gardeners and talk about your karrets? or your kabbidge! Ok, Ok, I am ready for all the flak! Do I care? No. Just doing my little bit to improve the English Language.
  14. Angling competitons must do more harm to the publics image of angling than anything else. I think many people are OK with an angler fishing for a couple of fish for the table. Man has been fishing for thousands of years. It is part of human culture. However, deliberatley harming fish for a prize is not acceptable to many people, including me. Match anglers of course would say, well you harm fish as well, what is the difference? Well, there is a big difference, and If they cannot see it, it's because they only see pound signs in front of their eyes. You cannot seriously think that there is much cudos in winning a competition with a couple of 5oz fish, and it happens all the time. Members of the public who sometimes ask what I am after, seem completely OK with my reply, when I say, a couple of flatties for tea. They are sensible people and realise the fish, or the cow, or the sheep, or the pig that they buy at the supermarket, has been killed for them to eat. It may even cross their minds that the fish I catch is at least wild, not reared in captivity to be killed. It's the cranky minority groups who portray fishng as cruel . Match fishing only serves to fuel their campaign.
  15. Bassman, lets put our money together and make an offer!
  16. I'll give him £1500 for it. It's all I can afford
  17. Stavey, a cheap way to fill our bellies!! You must be joking! I reckon any fish caught for the table must be the most expensive food on the planet. I am one of those odd chaps who does not agree with competitions. Angling is not about money grubbing for me. It's about sunsets, wildlife, having a chat with a friendly angler, and if I'm lucky, a fish or two.
  18. Chubsta, as you have the main gaer, a rod and reel, you other costs are small. Some swivels and hooks, a few weights, and some Amnesia line for traces. It will soon be Bass time, and where you are going to fish is ideal. You just need a single three foot trace, legered, with a 4/0 hook, and the choice of bait is yours. A whole side of mackerel, ( probably a pennel for that) and you could be into a good sized Bass during the summer. It is rocky, so a rotton bottom rig will be needed, but you won't need to cast far, in fact, it is essential that you don't. Have fun.
  19. I think the only way forward is to farm all fish for the commercial market, and not trawl at all for wild fish. They should be for anglers only. [ 04. April 2005, 10:11 PM: Message edited by: kentangler ]
  20. Steve, Porta Botes are unsinkable! The main selling point I think has been missed. You don't need a trailer, you can launch anywhere! That is a big bonus. No, you wouldn't take one out in a force 5, or any small boat. They have been used with no problems in force 4 conditions, which as you know, can produce a very choppy sea against the tide. I am really bored with this now! I will probably buy an orkney, and struggle to find a place to launch it! Subject closed I hope. Thanks for all the comments. [ 04. 21. Many other workers risk life and limb for the benefit of the community. Soldiers, firemen, construction workers, truckers are killed on our roads every day. Why all this clap trap about fishermen. Where was the sympathy for the miners who died in their hundreds from accidents and disease? Just for coal. I am sick of hearing how hard it is for fishermen. When they have completely emptied the seas, they will have to find other work, and they will, like thousands of other workers before them.
  22. Is there nothing that is safe from grubbing money grabbing humans? Not a thing will be left alive soon. Shore crab soup? Yuk,only the french would eat that. Why don't they catch their own from their shores?
  23. Well the insurance goes without saying. I suppose £130 isn't too bad really, it includes towing and theft, fire, and sinking? Thanks for the info, I will give it a look. I'm going to make sure I can find a decent place to launch before I buy a boat, not the other way round! Anyway, it's quite enjoyable looking at places to fish don't you think!
  24. Tha would be just the job fixed to a concrete post on hythe beach for winching in Pouting.
