  1. Coarse fishing in Brittany can be very good. Easy to get to. Bags of accommodation. Tench, roach, bream fishing in ponds, lakes, canals and rivers and of course, the specimen lakes. If the idea interests you let me know and I can get more specific and yes, I have tried it successfully.
  2. Do I think it was right? No Do I think it was understandable? Yes If positions were reversed, do I think that the Brits would have done it to the French? Absolutely, and some on here would have been cheering them on.
  3. They have been talking for 15 years. How many times on here have we seen outraged posts about French and Spanish boats fishing legally. The outrage was usually about the fact that they could fish legally. As for the French breaking the agreement (larger British boats stayed out of the area in exchange for more fishing rights.) What were the British boats doing in the area if they were abiding by the agreement?
  4. Other side of the story Quote Tension has rumbled for 15 years, but in the past five a deal has prevailed - larger British boats stayed out of the area in exchange for more fishing rights. British boats can gather scallops year-round, but French law restricts the scallop fishing season to between 1 October and 15 May. This year, the fed-up French rejected that agreement. "For the Brits, it's an open bar - they fish when they want, where they want, and as much as they want," Mr Rogoff complained. I wonder how outraged you would be if French boats were fishing off the coast of England for species that British boats were not allowed to fish for. i
  5. It is true that EU commissioners are not elected, one is selected from each member state. They are however, approved by the EU parliament, who are elected. Of course, if your elected member of Parliament chooses not to attend or vote then you have no say in the matter. Any new legislation produced by the commissioners has to be voted on and approved by the elected members of the EU Parliament. See previous comment. Their wishes are carried out by unelected staff in exactly the same way that British Civil Servants carry out the wishes of Members of the British Parliament. There are about 33,000 members of the EU staff. There are about 440,000 members of the British Civil Service.
  6. It is an EU project and you chose to leave the EU. What else would you expect? Imagine that you are a member of a fishing club that acquires a new lake. It needs refurbishing so you go to the work parties and invest a lot of time and effort as well as contributing to the re-stocking fund, The lake is showing great promise when, due to unrelated issues, you decide to leave the club. Would you still expect to be able to fish in the lake? As for security information share, the clue is in the word "share" The UK stands to benefit at least as much as the EU. You stand to get information from 27 countries whilst they only get information from one. It is in your own interest.
  7. It seems as if a no deal Brexit is becoming inevitable. There is no chance of a second referendum and it looks like there is no chance of the UK government being able to agree on anything until they run out of time and considering this is supposed to happen by October to allow time for a commons vote, that isn't going to happen. Chaos ensues.
  8. Bad day for Mr Trump and American politics yesterday.
  9. He was voted in as an MEP to represent the best interests of his constituents. That is, all of his constituents, whether they voted for him or not. That would require his attendance at debates, arguing in committees and voting on things that affect his constituents. All things he has never done, so I would say he is not doing his job.
  10. It makes you wonder how Farage has got time to do all of these other things, given that he is still employed and being paid, as an MEP Oh, that's right. He doesn't bother turning up and doing his job, does he?
  11. John who said that it is not OK for a white person to call a black person black?
  12. The same word can mean many different things. I depends on context, how it was said, what was meant by it. Calling someone a black tw8*t could be an insult or a term of endearment.
  13. We keep hearing "it was the will of the people" No, it was the will of some of the people". Those people did however, outnumber the others by a very small margin.
  14. My personal feeling is that anything that completely covers the face should be banned in public, purely from a security point of view.. France and other European countries have managed this. The only thing that is says in the quran is that males and females should dress "modestly" There is nothing that states they should cover the face. It is usually worn because the husband demands it, the State demands it or the individual woman wants to wear it. This might be more often than many people think. I wonder how many people who see it as a form of female subjugation have ever stopped to ask the woman wearing it.
  15. I wasn't offended by them. Can't speak for anyone else. Was does offend me is that this man is seriously being suggested as a future Prime Minister.
  16. Whether you think him right or wrong, he is a senior politician and to say what he said is stupid. This is something he has proven time and time again. He shouldn't be the leader of anything.
  17. Strange I don't give a toss about you.
  18. Many years ago I had an insight into the world of greyhound racing. Unbelievably corrupt. I have no reason to believe that horse racing is any better. Why would I wager money on something I have no control over? A game of poker on the other hand.....
  19. Exports are easy when your currency is devalued.
  20. As I say Phone It depends on who you listen to. http://time.com/5123598/president-trump-impeach-criminal-constitution/
  21. Depends on who you listen to. That has yet to be tested in court. Once Trump leaves office, however that happens, he can be indicted and charged with any criminal offence he has committed. It's beginning to look like Manafort's only way out will be a Presidential pardon, but that will only apply to the Federal charges.
  22. And if the black man attacked the white man then that would be a racist attack. So?
  23. Sorry, but that is not true. Any one can exhibit racism or racial prejudice against any other person, regardless of race, skin colour or religion. To say a black person cannot be convicted of racism is incorrect. They can be and very often are.
