  1. loosing bait as an opption wouldnt really bother me as i have been getting ready for the bass season with a 8 weight saltwater greys GRX with 3 spare spools for obious reason. and a good selection of salt water circle fly hooks and armed with the shooting heads will make it good kit for bass.i dont need bait to catch bass! i fish for bass too there not bad fish to catch when you going to catch them.the fact that i think there a pest when you dont want to catch them is my oppion the fact that i dont like to eat them is my right, the fact i used them as bait when they woldnt swim away instead of wasting them sounds fairly consevation minded to me. any other ethical questions you would like to ask
  2. too engrossed on the golf course me thinks
  3. ill have to post you some things that will help then bob. will be up your way soon then i hope
  4. i went up the west coast on a fishing reckie last summer and there are camp sites all over some are offical caravan club jobs and others that farmers rent when the cows and sheep on them. i wouldnt worry at all about just going up there on the day and finding a site close by quite quickly if not like blind dog said camp were you like there no worrys about finding a nice spot that people probably havent even walked on. have fun
  5. bob i can show you a few tricks that may help will show you at scrabster.personal i have SHV 40 with 40lb and some times and 80lb shocker depends were im fishing. 30lb line and opptional 50lb shocker would be fine if the bottom allows and the tide isnt too strong.
  6. fair enough after all this thats it is it. ive had threats aimed to me and all sort all you can say is "fair enough". a little word from the offendors would be nice now come on they teach it is school ssssooooooor
  7. scotty i plain and simple havent done anything wrong if people take my comments out of context is that my problem. maybe if people werent so quick to judje with out hearing the the full story and asking questions first there wouldnt have been any problem. oh and ive been a member of AN for years! formerly know as crusty formerly know as crustymk1 i will put as much time into catching bass as the next bloke and ive had hundreds of good bass, my orriginaly comment was they are a pest! and they can be a pest when your fishing for other very good fish like sole,rays,conger,pollock,flounder,mullet.... need i go on i also fish for all of the above every season. rays i have the biggest problem with bass stealing my baits before the rays get to it. the problem is if i was talking about dog fish being pest no one whould of too a second look but mention bass in a negitive like and look what happens. dose it not remind you of you carp and bivvy days?? ok i sick of trying to explain my comments now. the comment was my very first post after a year just reading eltons emails. if people still have a problem with my comments well live with it because ive nothing to worry about moraly or other wise if people have such a problem with it go and joine the anti fishing W***** then i know were i can really pick a fight
  8. kent angler your right im all ways telling people the same thing.things like that dont happen too often thankfully.(it dose prove the fact bass are stupid though) i think the thousands of pounds i spend on fishing is totaly justifyed saying as every piece of gear i own has landed good quality fish(most days).
  9. i saw a 6lb fish landed on bacon rind on a 99p crab line you can imagine my furry when blanked with 30quids worth of bait and 500quids worth of tackle
  10. i used it in the river before christmass smells and feels like cat sh*t. and is quite strange stuf as to it working yep i had 15 whiting on it all size and my other baits i had 3. i was convinced its a bit too soft for casting though needs abit of elastic and a farily gentle cast. got some here if you want to try some up scabster

    TURBOT INFO

the beches up there hold small turbot up to 2lb so they dont need hooks that are too big.most of the turbot are on two hook flapper rigs, with sandeel fillets or small head less sandeels. watch the tide there its a bit weard wade out and cast out as far as you can and fish the ebbing tide. early summer seems to produce more. there arnt massive numbers there but there are smome massive flounders up those beaches and of course those pest bass turn up some times.
  12. i my oppionon there should be no power station pumping what so ever in rivers etc there are large numbers of under ground water courses all over the country that could be allot less harm full. im not to worryed about good quality drinking water. i think the impact on estury fish and shellfish and all the other little critters is far to delicate to play with saying as there all nusrey areas for every fish in our inshore waters
  13. thinking about it actually its harder to lob the bait short with long rods
  14. not at all not as far as my k2s are concerned. i would have no probs with a 9yr old casting one of mine, they dont realy need to be cast its more a case of a slow steady motion rather than a hard wack .all the longer rods i own and have cast have this in common just gentle wind through the cast and the bait will still go too far some times.
  15. i was supprised i must admit when the comments about my actions were slated so readily.personally i would never kill a bass for bait, but consideration should be taken to the fact they are food for lots of larger fish ie tope, they dont cruse round shallow water looking for sandeels if they want nice plump bass or mullet. oh i have had mullet in the water too for conger but werent killed intentionally to do it.i found them stranded in a gully on a beach allready dead some were still kicking but were far to gone to return to the water half a mile down the beach.was this wrong to or should the gulls have been left to feast on them? as it happens mullet do very well as fish baits far better than bass even stronger flesh and allot more oil spills out of the fillets.oh i had one of my silver dollers in my aquarium die on me guess what happend to that!the pollock i had on it werent at all fussed and to be honest if i thought a bass or mullet would fish better than other baits for preditors i probably would use them.at the end of the day is there diffrence between using crab or worm or even squid as bait saying as they have equall amounts of pressure to survive in reallity probably harded for those then the humble bass.never turn up the chance of a good bait what ever it may be with common sence of course.
  16. its a forrel its an early inflateable ive seen far better since but like i say it started life as a toy.im working on the posting pics bit been a wile since i used a computer will try a post some pics tommorro. i want the weight under the water because it rolls very easy im allways falling out of it,had to buy one of those things surfers use to keep it near by when i was out its hard work swimming after it some timesits just very light in the water and it needs a bit more stability in the sea it may get stabliser floats soon need to fix it really its better to stay safe. the tubes start from 10inc down to 3inc
  17. it really surprised me how easy very long rods are to use
  18. lets hope they dont get handed a fishing licence then.i imagine a small inshore trawler would catch probably the same numbers and species of fish
  19. always sad to hear the old lady aint well.davy have a look for the for 23 derv engine out of ford sierra or london style black cabs small heavy engine chain drive build like a brick.would be ideal marinized lump very torqy and low reving would fit stright on to your box. might be cheeper than the 1800TDS
  20. if there as good quilty as the xccellrators there gona be good i reacon
  21. sounds intereting what is it the greys rod.ive a pair of K2s for the clean flat beaches, never had a rod fish as well the 16ft lenght of them is exellent you can put the fish any were you want
  22. is any one fishing inflateable yaks ive been using mine for 3 years didnt occure to me for 2 years to fish with it untill last year!what a waste but im fishing with it now and loving it,its a white water style thing bit to high in the water for fishing wish i could get some more weight under the water was thinking of maybe a flooded drain pipe that will drain coming out of the water though a type of bilge ball in it any one got any ideas?
  23. my appologis for that one was a simple miss understood statement.bass are still usless fighters you have to give them far too many chances.i fish for them with 8lb line now cos there so slow
  24. i have used bass as bait ive never killed them to do it i have only ever used them when they have swallowed massive pennel hooks meant for conger when a 2lb bass takes them theres no chance of suvival, im not interested in eating them and i would rather feed them to a conger as a well displayed fresh fillet than see them washed up dead the next morning or just simply dieing and rotting in the sea.and at the moment i far more concerned about sandeels than bass. if the sandeel population drops much more bass will be one of the first fish to dissapear saying as they are the staple food for most fish in the brithish isles. maybe you should wait and listen first benny then mayby you wouldnt be so quick to jump to conclusions.i will fish for bass as readily as most men with spinning gear or flys. i have never killed one that would go back alive i never will.how many cod did you return this winter i took 3 all winter for a meal.out of off probable 20 fish since october.im not the sort of person you think i am so backoff now please im a good guy were fishing is concerned.listen to what people have to say before you condem them oh and the day i use a golf club is the day the fish see me coming and jump out of the water at my feet.
  25. i must admit my shlosh 20s and 30s are far out classed buy the newer shvs but the shlosh reels are definatly still far better boxed if possible than a new penn or abu.you can still find shlosh 20 and 30s round today and shops are usually keen to sell them and usually very cheep for what your getting.ive seen them for as little as 70 quid. when they were first launched i payed 130odd quid for mine and i was over the moon with it and the only reason that reel got passed up on was the launch of the shv models.i honestly dont think any reel manufacturer could match the quality of them for quit a wile.and there only a 100quid ish bargain!
