  1. Hmmm....Fried CPU - how did that happen? Have you replaced the processor inside or the base unit itself (many people mix these up - it is always wise to clarify). If it's the processor then really it shouldn't make a great deal of difference. Virtually all mobo's self configure processors these days. What you might have is a BIOS warning that the configuration has changed, in which case you are usually presented with options to: Enter the BIOS and configure the processor manually. or Accept the defaults (most PC's I've seen or worked with it's F1 to do this). Your mobo should have a BIOS manual should you need to configure the CPU manually. IF it doens't if you can find the make (usually printed on the board), I'll find one for you. -Ian-
  2. Bouyancy for XL is 57 Newtons complying with EN393. XL is suitable for people up to 90kg. I have a 44" chest and it fits but very tightly on me, so 40 and 42" I'd probably still go with an XL (certainly if comofort is an issue). I think we've got a couple of the black ones in stock. There are on our site under floatation suits!
  3. Glad I could help. I've *never* from the days of owning 640x480 cameras had a fuji that has failed to impress me (based on what I wanted it for). The eBuyer prices *tend* to be about the best you can get (and their memory is as cheap as chips as well). -Ian-
  4. An old client of mine used to fill bottles with water and bury them (glass wine bottles). He gave me some crap about the wind blowing over the top making a faint noise they didn't like (all you bud drinkers know what I mean!). Hell, it's a good excuse to polish off a dozen bottles of red if nothing else!!
  5. As someone who does this kind of thing for a living I'd forget about Metas or at least not put too much time into them - except the TITLE tag, which does need to be there, and does need to contain the right text (going into this is beyond the scope of a simple post, but check out www.webmasterworld.com for info - us guys there are pretty sound and helpful). Google (and Yahoo/Msn more each day) do not give weight to metas(since they are easily manipulated by unscrumpulous webmasters) but more to off page factors, such as incoming links, link text (very important), and on page factors such as keyword density on the page. Initially it is easier to spam your way into Yahoo and Google by means of heavy keyword density pages (and keyword rich domains seem to work - at least for me), but that will get you nowhere (and maybe even penalised) in Google. Best to start a link building campaign getting incoming links (think of incoming links as votes if you like by other websites - the more votes you have the better), but do not go overboard (i.e. too many at once) or Google will pick up on the sudden 'interest' in your site, and sandbox it (prevent it being indexed) for upto a year. Softly, softly isn't a bad approach, and realistically good rankings for a new site should be deemed to be a 12 month objective (you can accelerate this, but quicker usually means higher risk). Do not try black hat tricks like the white text on white background type tricks as it will eventually lead to penalties (it is easy to check for automatically with an SE spider). Cloaking and doorways also used to be popular and whilst they still work (very well actually) most sites eventually get clobbered (even if it is a good way down the line). I like editplus for PHP/HTML editing - it's only a notepad variant, but a bloody good one, which formats (or marks up with colours) your coding so it is easier to read. I use it for the fishing company and for my private clients. Sorry if the above went off on a tangent here and there but it really is a VAST subject and you'd be better off (no disrespect to this forum) on a site dedicated to this kind of thing! Meanwhile good look with whatever venture you are planning!
  6. My Computer, Control Panel, Click the 'Switch to Classic View', then Printers, then delete the old one (if necessary) and right click on the new one and select 'set to default'. *should work* Ian
  7. Hmmm... Meta tags - not considered by Google. In Yahoo and MSN you are better off with ONE WORD or phrase in the meta description than with 20 or several hundred. Yahoo and MSN you can easily achieve rank by playing with Keyword density and the like. With Google concentrate more on content (which you have here) and incoming links. Look at where your competitors are linking from and try and get links from the same places. If your sites are on the same server or host be VERY wary about Interlinking them to each other - G! detects this as spam (by IP and whois supposedly). For more info on tags and the like check out www.webmasterworld.com. Really TITLE is the most important, the rest are pretty worthless (from the days when AV was king!!). Ian
  8. Awaaar - Sorry but I do think positive thinking holds back sport in this country. We are naturally pessimistic about everything in this country ** EXCEPT ** anything related to national pride such as sports teams. Yes I love cricket - I will watch most of the ashes, and will travel to at least the trent bridge match (got 3 days of tickets already). BUT unless us poor folk who have to shell out hard earned cash to watch them raise our voices, the situation regarding our national sports teams will never improve. Does anyone TRULY believe that the England setup isn't an 'old boys club'. Look at the Thorpe/Pietersen debate - it's a no brainer as far as I am concerned (even with the trecherous Pietersen leaving Notts last year - lol). Ant === What said it all was the commentary the other week about Jack Russell spending more time with Jones to help him with his keeping. In my opinion anyone can be shown how to catch a ball, but keeping is FAR MORE than catching and stopping balls - as any good keeper will tell you. Chris Read can bat - and his first class average last year proves that - sure his England average may not be great but the poor guy has only played a handful of tests - Jesus - if we got rid of all players for having rough spells we'd lose our captain instantly!! TEST CRICKET IS NOT THE PLATFORM TO LEARN A TRADE - we wouldn't take a professional batsman like Vaughn, Pietersen etc and expect them to open the bowling with a new ball!! [ 21. 9. I think this a great buy - I had a client buy a couple a week or two back and they have had nothing but praises for them! http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/in...oduct_uid=66775
  10. Awaaar - I am hoping that was sarcasm! Going back over the past year or so we have... West Indies - A team that was reeling with controversy not least because of wage/sponsorship issues and internal fueding. Yes - some good names - but they are definitely a team rebuilding. The South Africans are nothing like they were in the Cronje days (and he was on the take). Our Christmas/Winter tour was hailed as a success but we beat a rebuilding SA team who give them three or four years will walk all over us. Next, did Bangladesh EVER play that well against England? The answer is no, and if they did they would have gave us a good run for our money! I am concerned. Not because I don't think there is a chance (there is always a chance B'desh proved that) however, I fear our complacency could be our undoing. Australia are the greatest team in the world - we, the team and the media can lie to ourselves - but it is true. The Ashes is 25 days of cricket, not one - Australia could have five bad days and still 'easily' win hands down. The question we need to be asking though is can England truly perform on all 25? - because that is, in reality, what is going to be required, and it is something I've not seen an England team do in a very long time. (More importantly! - Does anyone actually agree Geriant should be Keeper - no-one picked up on my comments about Chris Reid. We could lose the Ashes to a few dropped catches and a handful of byes....).
  11. Added a few boat rods to our lists - we are getting more and more enquiries/sales for these (as well as a mad rush on worms and muppets and Pike lures in the past week). We've also added the Maxximus Solid Carbon at £89.95 - a cracking boat rod at under the RRP. Ought you need, let me know!
  12. I use a FAPS Axiom 4000, 9 bearing, built probably better than any reel I've ever seen and about as smooth as they'll ever come. Before the shimano crowd lynch me (or the Daiwa crowd) I am a firm believer that MANY quality products are overlooked in the fishing industry because of branding. I have handed FAPS reels to customers who are exceptionally impressed (including Shimano users), who struggle (and this is honest) to give a reason why the reel is a poorer relation. Bear in mind FAPS centurion poles and the like are in the £1500 to £2000 class, they are not the sort of company to knock out any old crap. Take a look at the specs on our site (We also have two of the unboxed ones left discounted in the specials section). BTW I am not knocking Shimano or Daiwa - just saying that other companies are catching up *very* quickly.
  13. OK, Michelin messed up. They admitted it, which is a damn site more honest than what most engine manufacturers do (and engines letting go can have just as dire consequences). From a media perspective I cannot help but think if it was a very clever ploy of F1 and/or the FIA. Most people I know watched the race or at least part of, following phone calls, emails etc - including many who have no interest in F1. I'd bet the viewer ratings for the french GP are well up, as will be hits to their website, magazines etc. The great thing from the management of F1 is the blame is difficult to allocate - Michelin had valid grounds to withdraw, the FIA had valid ground to reject their proprosals, Eccelstone really has no 'proper' authority as he really is only the media rights owner(though he carries a great deal of influence). Basically refunds and law suits will be very difficult (and probably fruitless), so F1 gets away with that. Finally, the rights for the Indy circuit and USGP are (this year) up for renewal - so maybe the head guys are thinking that Laguna Seca or Daytona or somewhere else might be better propositions...and they now have an excuse not to offer Indy (like they'd want it) the contract for another five years! (I do think the teams wanted to race - the decisions I refer to would probably have been made by people WELL up the chain!).
  14. Sod it, I'd use one of these: [ 18. June 2005, 12:21 PM: Message edited by: UK-Fishing-Tackle.co.uk ]
  15. Our fishing shop gets a rate of £5 + VAT for upto 30kg anywhere in the UK or NI. Most ebayers (with more than two parcels a day) are getting the same. This includes insurance. Realistically then £6 + VAT is not unreasonable, since jiffy bags, kraft paper, tape and bubble wrap are not free - so flat rate (fair) is £7 We charge via our store a max of £3.50 regardless of how much ordered and as low as 49p. Most of our packaging is recycled (i.e. stuff sent to us comes in bubble wrap and we reuse it!), and we sub the carriage £1.50 if it goes by courier (all rods, nets, suits etc) since generally these are the higher value items (and the one or two where they aren't high value are worth it for customer relations/word of mouth etc).
  16. For trout and perch smaller bladed type spinners work well. Trout tend to hit less colourful things (in my experience) and small plain silver spoons have always done very well (round here tin foil works as well as any lure for trout). For this type of fishing I'd typically use a good strength mono - yes braid is better (which I use for piking) but we are talking about relatively low weight fish and you will definitely know if you hook up with a trout (a 3lb trout can fish as well as most fish). It is wise to consider using a trace, but the shorter 15cm wire jobs are more than adequate for this type of fishing. Also I am an advocate of shutting the bail arm on hitting water. Yes the lure will effectively drop in the water towards you, but I agree with Burke - many are hit on or very near the take. I saw you asked about braid prices. If you are after braid we do 250m of 15lb b/s at £12.50 which is a pretty good deal (climax sinking).
  17. I sell them if your after a keen price - I think we have a few of the black in stock! Seriously they are pretty good value for money. I've never fell in wearing one, but the fladen rescue system range is incredily well made (and by far our biggest selling range of products). I'd of thought they'd be ideal. The only comment is they are not designed for REALLY rough water, and unlike a CO2 'hammer' vest do not right an unconsious person the right way automatically!
  18. I am based in Louth (about 15 miles off Chapel). Hmm don't know the lake...Or at least never fished it. There is plenty of good fishing around though if you fancy some short travelling, especially around Alford. There is a cracking pond in Authorpe, another in Aby and another in Belleau all within about three miles of each other. These are good countryside ponds, typically fairly quiet and not overfished. All are rule free I think (boilies/hemp permitted), and all at £5 for a day ticket. I can give you directions to them all (they are about three miles north of Alford nr Chapel). A good map should show the villages. I'd suggest dropping me a PM for specifics as the ponds are on private land and not signposted from the main roads. If you have to pick one, Authorpe has carp to 28lb supposedly which is the biggest I know of around here, and 24lb and several low 20's were landed last week. It also some exceptional bream, and permits night fishing (one of the few that does in the area). You could do Authorpe in around 20 minutes from Chapel. Aby on a fine day can fish very well indeed. You'll see the carp basking from the high banks. They have ghosties, I've never seen any caught elsewhere around this part of Lincs. Alternatively grab a cheap beachcaster and reel (sales pitch - we do sell them). Huttoft through Chapel has some good sea fishing (best between Skegness and Grimsby anyway). It was a p*ss poor winter by all accounts but catches have been much better recently...father in law had a nice pair of bass about two weeks ago.
  19. Hmm...We had a discussion about this at Lords at the Tsumani match and the general concensus was Australia: a) Not really being bothered about 20/20 Lack of very recent play as a team c) Mind games (my own favourite).
  20. I am at Lords tomorrow for the charity match (just thought I'd throw that in, just in case anyone was going to work...) Basically England are not a good team - we are lead by a poor captain and managed by poor management. I support England, I have ashes tickets in August for TB, but convincing wins against unconvincing teams (Bangladesh, South Africa etc) might give you a good 'form' record, but proves nothing. Management is probably the key. There is no doubt in most fans minds that Pietersen is probably one of the best prospects ever, yet bizarrely the management have been quick to overlook him for full tests (South Africa would have been ideal), and have criticised him recently for a slight drop in form. We have a wicket keeper who can bat, but unfortunately cannot keep wicket anything like as well Chris Read - why England have never cottoned on (over the 15 years I've watched cricket) that wicket keeping is a true skill I don't know! The England team is an old boys club, and selection is evidently more based on who you know and if you fit the profile rather than talent! Captaincy is also important. Vaughn is not really an 'awe-inspiring' captain. How many cricket fans truly believe he can rally the troops and how many of the players really look up to him? The same could be send for our football team. You put a weak player in charge (skillful, but weak) the players will not rise to the occasion. Put a Roy Keane there and they'd do as their told! Finally sack all the coaches. We cannot bowl consistent line and length in most matches. Spin bowling is just awful most of the time, and it really doesn't challenge many batsmen. The fielding of the England team some of the time is below pub team standard (and you've all seen that I know). Rant over, until someone argues with the above!
  21. Drinking whilst fishing (in moderation is fine). I am more intrigued into who would police a ban?? My understanding is the EA don't have any legal powers (i.e. a baliff cannot arrest you, search you or force you to take a breath test) - in fact - Are baliffs even allowed to confiscate fishing tackle when someone fishes in closed season illegally (I don't think they are - might be wrong)? The police! Biggest joke I've ever heard. They see more value in hiding behind bloody trees and roadsigns nabbing speeders. Fishery owners - Hmm, I wouldn't challenge a bunch of drunk lads near a lake (would you?). Also the VAST majority of waters need more anglers (not less) so commercial pressure would probably mean most clubs are forced to take a lenient view on such things. The subject does lend itself to a good legal challenge though. What if a drunk falls into a lake and injures himself? Sure, he's a feck'n idiot, but these days unless you had big signs with 'no alcohol', strictly enforced any such rule (by supervising and pointing it out to the punters) COUPLED with the state of most fishery paths (trees, muddy walkways, many lakes you go 'down' to get to the swims) - the drunk could well have a case against the owner!!!
  22. Good your on track - watch that Chloramine issue though - very little publicity has been given to the switch (by water companies) yet more and more are moving over to it. If you need RO water regularly Pozzani do a system for aquarium owners for less than £70 I think - might work out cheaper than buying it (long term).
  23. It is a CMS - content management system - coded in PHP. In other words it is an off-the-shelf program, which is free (i.e. you do not need to buy it) which runs websites which show news articles. The advantage being you do not need to code each page since the administration system lets you add stories, pictures and pages - which are actually stored in a database as opposed to individual files. So basically you install the software, configure the template (header, footer, left and right navigation bars) so it looks how you want it, and then the rest is pretty simple to manage. You typically need a Linux host with MySQL for PHP-Nuke I think. If you need a host check out www.simplewebhosting.co.uk - they do mine and it runs fine!
  24. Given we now get photo ID drivers licences anyway - and those with paper ones are being forced over to photocards WHY don't the government use a system that works (the licence identifies us individually) and just make the process of applying for a provisional licence at 16 mandatory EVEN if you have no intention of driving. That way we all have a card with our photo, name and signature that needs updating every ten years AND identifies us as being who we say we are... System costs £20 or thereabouts a time and it works...
