I would never buy any thing from Badger. I have heard so may bad things about them.

Please do not do as the Angling Times said a few weeks ago get is as soon as you need it .

One of my mates caught 2 decent tench from a local lake in february. There is all ways a chance of catching the odd one now but I like to wait to may time before targeting them on float tackle. If you wanted to catch one now it might be a good idea to use scaled down carp tackle eg small boilies as some of the carp anglers catch the odd one at this time of the year.

I take it that you never caught any fish big enough to use the landing net !

What do you fish for ? If it is for pike you could deep hook a pike.

You should not be that far away from your rod.

I have caught eels in may on maggot from a still water whilst targetting other fish in may and have caught them from rivers in february using spat whilst piking . I think that you are in with a chance off catching of one but I think that you might be better off waiting a month or two when you will stand more chance of a getting a decent catch.

For anybody who does not fish during the old close season keep your eye on your tackle . In the past I have had problems with mice in my nets and tacklebox.

I use a sounder box turned on quitely and put inside my bivey when night fishing. I think that Lidi would have been better off waiting until the start of the new sason before putting the items on sale. Some new people to fishing might not know that it is the close season for rivers now. Most anglers who have been fishing a while use the tackle shops any way and use better tackle.

They are still on the loud side even when the volume is turned down compaired to other alarms. There is nothing worse than listening to other peoples alarms when you go out for a quite days fishing.

I brought some alarms from there last time but are not keen on them as they are a bit on the loud side. Some of the items are ok eg line and the container to keep spinners and plugs in.

I have just the Anglers Mail match results for the East of England and found out that former National Champion ( He won it on the Welland ) has died.

I think that one of the plus points of day ticket waters is that your car is safe. On the rivers I have heard of breakins in to peoples car when they have been fishing for the day. Has any body on the forum have this happen to them ?

I had my wing mirror on my car broken by a bull when I was fishing a few years ago it cost me about £60 a few days before I went on hoilday.

If you find where people are catching roach, dace ect try there as the pike will not be to far away. Try deadbaiting with something other than a sprat.Eg Mackerall If you think that they are to big you can use a knife and fish with just the tail end.

In a word yes. Reason. 1 Pike are one of the fish to spawn. 2 Pike can not take the pressure of being caught to often . 3 On a lot of stillwaters pike are the only fish worth targetting in the winter and with the water ( Hopefully ) getting water there are other fish to go for.

When I started fishing we had none of these day ticket lakes to fish where you can bag up but to had to fish the rivers and had to work hard to catch fish. I think that on the rivers it improves your watercraft . I agree that most of the rivers are not as good as they used to be. In some ways now most new anglers can run before they can walk.

May can be the best time of the year to catch plenty of fish from stillwaters. I never fish for pike after the 14 th of march. I like to give them a rest.

We are all ways learning some thing new every time we fish. I think that when you have a family and other commitments it is more important than to spend your money on that than a hobby

I would consider it a waste of time and money. There are enough books and dvds on fishing to put anybody on the right track. It was not like that when I started fishing 45 years ago.

Hi If you want to catch something decent in the winter you could take up pike fishing . It would a good idea to go with somebody who knows a think or two about pike fishing for the first few times to show you the ropes and help with the unhooking.

When I have been to Yarmouth on holiday I came across Fritton Lake but I have never fished. I go fishing at Oulton Broad it is free fishing and I have all ways caught there.!
