  1. Yes I'm not too bad at spelling, just a crap typist.
  2. I saw it too, didn't seem to do him any harm. It also made the connection between certain worms and allergys. They found the presence of certain types of worms stopped people suffering, just think no more hay-fever.
  3. I've a couple in my garden, but neighbours are all putting up fences instead of hedges, saves un trimming I suppose. I have pursuaded them to leave a few small holes to enable the hedgehogs to move around. I also think the number of domestic and stray cats are responsible for the decline in our garden wildlife.
  4. Brave(or foolish) man, for your next trick can you put your other foot in your mouth. Go to DEF CON 2 and take cover!
  5. There's a bit more substance to a worm, a maggot is more or less just a skin with liquid in, if you burst it your just left with a lifeless bag. If you make sure your hooks are sharp enough and the correct size you shouldn't have a problem with bursting them. I do however, sometimes add a few squashed maggots to my groundbait I think it might help attract fish.
  6. Welcome to AN jr502. As far as I know fishing with anything but rod and line or licensed netting are the only legal forms of catching fish here. I wouldn't recommend using a bow and arrow to catch fish anywhere near anglers, because the reaction to it would be anything but friendly.
  7. no only about 4 or 5 ...tonnes that is.
  8. Well after all the fuss it's dead, not suprising after all that in and out of the water. I know they did their best, but I think the shock would have been enough to kill it.
  9. Hi Elliot, its not always that simple. A few years ago I was fishing a swim on the swale, a swim I know well and have had some decent barbel and chub from. I was ledgering with 5lb line staight-through to a size 8, using cheese as bait. I started getting very shy bites, more of trembles on the line, but couldn't conect. I remembered something I'd been told about touch ledgering(pointing the rod at the bait, and laying the line across the fingers ) doing this I could detect the bites better. Next time I struck I thought I'd missed, but had a roach of about 4oz! this happend 3 times. I put a small bomb on my match gear, a small piece of cheese on a 16, cast out and the rod took off! barbel about 3lb. I changed back to heavier gear, roach! I did this another 4 times, same result... light tackle, small bait, barbel.. heavier, big bait roach. I decided to stick with light rig until I struck into one that I played for 20 mins, (my mate timed it) until the hook link went. Just shows nothing in angling can be taken as read, that's whats so great about it!
  10. Hi Elliot, do you mean lobworms ? If so,yes, depending on what size of worm you're using. Anything from a 12 to size2, as always the size of the bait determines the size of your hook. A piece of worm on a small hook, along with chopped worm in your feed should attract a variety of species. But dont think this will stop the roach from having a go, I've caught 4-5oz roach on size 8 and 6 before today. If you mean lug worms, sorry, never tried them in fresh water. Good Luck. Sorry about that Elliot I was posting same time you were editing.
  11. Looking at the baby I guess they don't go in for breast feeding much.
  12. Cheers Peter, that brought back some great memories of wonderful holidays and fantastic fishing.
  13. Look on coarse fishing forum
  14. I'm not from the "sticks" Leeds is pretty crowded as well, but I haven't noticed the same urgency or disregard for other people in any other major city in the coutry. I think it must be a competition thing.
  15. You selling tickets? Count me in!
  16. Indicating? I'm beggining to think indicators are an optional extra on some cars.
  17. I'm not a dyed in the wool carp angler, like divercity too much, but this thread is a great idea, you should post it on the coarse forum ,and let a few others enjoy it
  18. No one mentioned them speaking
  19. From what I gather it's unusual to see just one, they're very social animals and are usually found in groups. Their main diet is squid, so might not be a danger to local fish stocks. Not like the seals that have been in the Yorkshire Ouse system for the last few years, they've been seen 30-40 miles inland! Still I hope they can be pursuaded to head seaward soon.
  20. Yer but up here like to take our time, enjoy the anticpation, just in case we're in trouble for something we dont know we've done, and the evening turns sour.
  21. Last sept' my daughter started at uni' in Hatfield. Iv'e not spent much time down there before, so it came as a bit of a surprise when, on the visits to see her, I find myself being "pushed" round roundabouts, cut up like a loaf of bread and "forced" into speeding, because everyone seems in such a hurry. My daughter has placement at two London hospitals and has twice been knocked over by people rushing to catch the tube. Can anybody explain the rush? Iv'e been to most of the major cities in Britain, but none of them seem to have this problem. Is it something in the water?
  22. Happy Birthday Newt, and congratulations to you both. Heres to many more. Haven't been on the forum long, but very much enjoy your tales from across the pond.
  23. As I've said in earlier posts I'm new to this internet forum thing, but I have been involved in various clubs committees etc. I've found there is always someone who thinks they can do things better than those who run it. There are always "wind-up" merchants who try to take a rise out of anyone willing to bite. I've only been on a week or so and I think I've sussed out most of them already, and as for biting I wish the fish were that eager! If someone is stirring it why not ignore it ,dont get sucked in. I used to tell my kids its like seeing dog crap on the pavement, it annoys you with its smell, appearence and very existence, but you dont argue with it, just walk round and walk on. I look at these people in the same way. I've found this site to be informative, interesting, funny and sometimes puzzling when an obvious "in joke" is going round. I think the mods have got it about right, and after all they do run the site.
