  1. Hope both you guys will be happy with your new gear and have a great week end on the bank, want to see some pics on here Monday of your catches of 30+'s, like I said enjoy and if you catch it's a bonus. Tight lines guys
  2. Not sure if all people use tubing though Kestrel, I have seen many that don't. I must admit when I did use leadcore in the past, tried to keep everything safe as pos, as with all set ups and never had any problems myself. I know it is a job to tell exactly what would cause that type of scaring and it could be various things, but I was going by the width of the scar rather than the length, as leadcore tends to be a thicker diameter than braid and knowing how abrassive the Nash stuff was, but still not a fan of it myself and don't use it anymore. I now stick to sinking tubing, tungston putty, the Korda flying backleads and back leads up near the rods to keep it all pinned down, feel safer with that, even if I am doing leadcore and injustice, would rather stick to a method that works and is safe.
  3. Nice little bit of gear that, one of the various one's I use, just in a stick mix, rather than the method feeder.
  4. JRC range is worth a look, as not mentioned yet, I like the STI range, having had the STI twin skin 2 man, not used the spider, but it has had some good reviews. A lot of good one's out there and competitive on price, once again alot comes down to personal taste, it's good if you can get to a good tackle supplies that have some set up on display, so you can see them better, or just keep your eyes out on the bank.
  5. I had some Nash ready made leadcore leaders a few years back, and the outer material was so rough/abbrasive it could very easy cause flank damage, just pull it hard accross your own skin/hand and see how nasty it could be, it was like a file. I have seen carp with scars in straight lines along their flanks starting from the mouth end a inch or so back, but all though I could not prove it is the result of leadcore damage during the fight and a fish thrashing about or pulling away from you, it seemed very consistant to it, it could be due to mono line yes I agree, but knowing how abbrassive some leadcores can be, I have a strong feeling this was what it was down to. I might be wrong about this, so any other views would be good.
  6. Hope they are worth waiting for when you get one, Severn!!!!!!
  7. Look at the JRC range or Nash, + shop around, there are deals on all the time
  8. I don't like leadcore either for the above reason's and also think it contributes to fish flank and scale damage.
  9. Sure you will be happy with this set up mate. Then you can save your money up and upgrade another time if you feel the need. When I first set, I started with a pair of JRC Skyliner's and a pair of £29 cheap baitrunners, then eventualy ended up with 4 Greys X Flites 3lb TC and 4 Shimano 10000 XTE's. This time, when I set up again, I got the Wychwood set up and now have 4 Grey's Prodigy's 2 3/4lb TC with 4 Shimano 8000GTE-B's. So after having to set up all my gear twice and then upgrade at a later date when I could afford it, I have just one thing to say about it all, I never caught any more or any better/bigger fish on any of them, it was all the same, because at the end of the day, it's about bait/presentation, you can have the most expensive rods and reels in the world, but they won't catch you much, if at all, if your rigs/hooks/bait and presentation etc, are rubish. Mind you after having a few days away on the bank, if you catch a fish, it's a bonus, it's all about enjoying it, so get out there and have some fun with that new gear mate.
  10. The fox chair is ok, but don't know about the bedchair, as havn't actually seen one, a lot depends on your weight and height, if your 24 stone and 6 foot 7 tall, it might not be that good for you, if your average height and size it should be ok, but if you use it every week end, might not last as long as a JRC etc, but should keep you going till you can afford better. I started off a few years back with a Nash Outlaw bedchair for about £50 and they were a good bit of kit for a cheap end of the range bedchair and lasted well.
  11. Look at the other thread (Hello) Matty, as we mentioned this set up, it is a good all round deal and hard to beat for the price and quality.
  12. Which ones Matty???? Fox or Greys?
  13. Once you start getting up to that price, you might aswell pay a bit more and get Greys Prodigy's with a lifetime warranty and a far better rod all round.
  14. A lot of the French lakes sell bait on site, saves taking it with you.
  15. Have a look at the Hello thread on here and some further back about set up's. You will get a set up for £250, I did a while back from climax with the Basic Whychwood 2 rod set up, JRC landing net and sling mat and some bits and pieces for a full set up, including a Daiwa mission 100 litre rucksack and rod quiver for £250. I have a beer in the evening, but remember safety, all things in moderation and you don't want to be sleeping through them alarms screaming in the night.
  16. Not sure if the Reaction rods are still made or not, as they are not in the latest Wychwood catalouge, so that might be why Climax are pushing them out cheap, as they are the last of the old stock, but don't be put off by that, they are good, also worth a look is the JRC Skyliners in 2 3/4 TC, they are going for £25 each and are brilliant rods for the price, had many of + 20lb carp on them a few years back when I started with them and look for a couple of cheap baitrunners, but if you could stretch to the Climax Wychwood deal, they are well worth the money, don't go for a realy cheap pod and indicators though, they are only get what you pay for jobs and some are prety nasty. The Leada or Giant cheap alarms are good for the price, had a pair of these years ago and they still work fine, kept them as spares, some places are doing 3 in a case for a £10. As to Climax's service if you want to do mail order, it is top rate and fast delivery.
  17. I got the Wychwood set up from climax after having to set up again from scratch on a budget,as I left all my gear with my son when I moved away to Kent. I have since upgraded it, but kept the old set up for floating on the top etc. For quality and price you are going to have a job to find better, it's a cracking little set up, the reactions and rogue reels are good and far better than anything say £10 cheaper, not worth trying to look as anything cheaper will not match the quality and performance, the pod is good, only complaint is wish it had a little more adjustment on it's length, screamer indicators are a match for the basic Fox or Nash ones and the alarms, though basic, do there job well and are well made. I would say go for the complete 2 rod set up all for £149.99 and promise you won't be disappointed
  18. Should of asked him what bait was working while you was at it.
  19. I personaly would go with catcher baits, you can get cheap baits, but they don't all ways work aswell. Did notice a place on ebay doing cheap bulk dynamite baits in various sizes and flavours, think it was carpers baits, try a search.
  20. I had a kilo of these once, tried various places with them, never caught a thing on them, but did smell and look the part, so not to say they won't catch where your going to use them, but I would rate them along side Hells Kitchen, mentioned in another thread. They sell them on Fleabay sometimes.
  21. Bit of heavy metal putty on the end of your rig tube, then a Korda flying back lead, then a back lead at the rod end, keeps it all pinned down nice, try to avoid lead core if pos.
  22. In your wok as well. with a little hemp oil to stop it sticking
  23. Keep your rigs simple to start with, before getting onto helicopter rigs, they are better for silty/weedy bottoms and at distance. Start with a basic combi rig, though I don't know the water your fishing, but keep it simple, till your more experienced, also make some soft braid rigs and some stiff rigs, say about 6" long and have one type on one rod and one type another, try a different bait on each rod also, if your not hooking properly, shorten them slightly. Then start to see if one perfoms better than the other, it's not all ways about bait, it's about presentation, use safety lead clip and rubber and a length of rig tubing a bit longer than your rig, so it's a nice simple and safe set up. i would then see how you go and then start looking at making and puting a PVA stick on your rigs, to get some bait around your hook bait, make them half pellet and half ground bait, and remember hook goes into the ground bait, not the pellet end. Have a look through Total Carp or Crafty Carper mags, they will show you some regular features on rigs, but out of them all, the best advice I can give is, get the Korda Underwater DVD's, you will learn heaps from them and you can watch them over and over again.
  24. What part of the country do you live and where do you normaly fish, might be some one on here that can help, if they are local to you??
  25. Hi Buckerlee and welcome Have you not got anybody down at your local lake to show or help you?? as it's sometimes better to be shown than try to explain on the forum. Not all other anglers bite, but there are some that won't give you the time of day, which is a shame if your new and starting out, and thats regardles of age. Have a look through the rig section on the left hand menu on this page, some good advice and a good place to start.
