  1. Its a right complicated business Wurzel. Leons post got me brain going round and round and round.
  2. There you are Wurzel. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
  3. Before even reading your take on the matter Barry I read the article and he came across to me as a spoilt schoolboy who wants his ball (fish) back. He seemes to think all those bass belong to him and the people he is speaking for and it was really anoying that he pulled out the black economy card Next he will be blaming the tormoil in the money markets on anglers tacking fish home for supper. What a Plonker.
  4. Of course this boat is going to break some records its a state of the art , powerful catching machine with immense towing power but this does not mean there are suddenly more fish on the grounds Bobs got a point too the eyes of the industry are on this new boat. I bet if a lesser ship towed the same route the catch would have been just routine and come on they (trawler owners) know full well this is the case. They are just courting the sympathy of the public and playing on nievity. At the current fish prices a free for all on the cod would top the pentions of these guys right up and that would be it....Grand Banks.

  6. --> QUOTE(Norm B @ Sep 13 2007, 08:40 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I hope he's wearing a life jacket. Brilliant photo - Luv it one for Countryfile maybe. May "look"a tad reckless but those lads treat the Brigg with the utmost respect.

Thats a shame Mr.M. I was looking forward to your report. Better luck next time. Its been easy to forget with the good weather of late we are approaching winter now.
  8. Lets hope its not a one-off. There have always been large numbers of small plaice on the grounds up here but as soon as they reach any size they are dragged up.Maybe that with reduced trawler pressure a few will begin to give anglers sport (and supper) again. Mmmmmm-Just remembering how good they taste.

Sorry Barry but I think Marting has been very measured and reasonable in making his observations. On the weather issue :The boat is a huge , stable and very seaworthy ex naval vessel and is advertised as such if the weather came I am sure it would have been more than capable of dodging back to port also bearing in mind it is usually the speed of the drift that makes fishing impossible NOT the size of sea. Also unless there was a big change in forecast why go out there anyway? There is no excuse for the crew wasting valuble fish. In 20 yrs of angling at Whitby it is the !st time Ive heard of fish spoiling aboard. I know Challenge used to pride himself in keeping the catch in prime condition regardless of pressure and quantity and has been rightly thanked on many occasions for this. As for the food- well who pays twice for poor grub?
  11. Most certinly is relevant as it increases awareness of whats going on in our seas. In my mind the bag limit mongers and the preachers of "return all you catch " should take note.
  12. Fileys just south of Whiby M8.
  13. Fine, calm morning for the start of the biggest boat angling event in the north. With dozens of wrecks within a short steaming distance of the piers there will be big fish coming out every day hopefully. Good news the water is clearing again-just in time. Looking forward to the reports Paul I wonder if this year is going to throw up a few suprises? Remember the Halibut last year? What will rising temperatures bring us this year? Conger ? GOOD LUCK ALL
  14. Clicker you really do seem to have joined us from another far off planet. Do you have eyes, ears and a head?
  15. What the hells a "Seafish Certificate" and how much are they and were do you get them ??? Never heard so much rubbish in all my life. How long will it be before you need a certificate to have a ****?

    NORWAY TRIP

Love the haddock pic. In 30yrs boat angling Ive never seen anything nearly as big (or good looking) in the North Sea. I wonder why ?
  17. I accept Toeraq that anglers can have a localised affect on a stock but i would hope those wrecks cleaned out of pollock would replenish themselves over not too long a time. Our commercial rod and line fishermen finished years ago as they could not make it pay.It must be frustrating for pleasure anglers seeing this going on. When the cocentrations of fish are thinned out they will pack up presumably? One thing though its better than netting the wrecks.
  18. Exciting Times ST I cannot begin to think what you are going to catch but whatever it is I would not put it on here there are some sensitve folk about. Round here there are seals everywere but unfortunatly no market for them although there is a bloke on GlennK 's site who would probably eat one. Good Luck! Clem
  19. Have you got your harpoon yet ?
  20. Bit of down to Earth common sense there Mr. Motorola
  21. I respect your experience Clicker I just thought someone had just come on to stir things up. It was your suggestion that charter boats have their days at sea restricted that made me wonder as (down the east coast anyway) they already are restricted by the weather and lack of anglers. I know of one charter vessel thats only been out twice this year through a combination of those 2 things. In bad weather they can be tied up for 6 weeks at a stretch. As for returning the cod then many , many cod are been returned but if this was made compulsary then it really would be the death of the east coast charter fleet. Your experience must also tell you that there would be no effect on the stock if this happened. CHEERS, Clem.
  22. Sorry Clicker I did not make myself clear when I said the programme did not show bad bits i meant high discards and environmental damage not the weather. Still good TV though.
  23. Hi Challenge, So called black fish was Scarborough's worst kept secret for a number of years in the early ninetys in particular when the TAC's were tightened up it started at back-end, dec. time but when quota got tighter it used to be a steady trickle through the year and yes I have witnessed it. I t did not really affect us as we were under 10M. but on those dark winter nights spent on the pier if we was shot tight in on a dodgy forecast then it was happening and by the time the fisheries officer was having his cornflakes it would be chopped up - gone. I would agree Challenge , never seen undersized codlings landed these all got shovelled over the side. The only person I remember been prosecuted was some old bloke who had half a dozen porks stufffed up his jumper and he was in the papers and everything. Its blowing a gale from the north here cannot even sleep!
  24. Thats the Scottish Parliament for you . They know and are passionate about their natural resourses and rightly so.
