Postage rip-off

Recommended Posts

I recently placed an order for some rod building components with Guides and Blanks. It was for some fuji rings and duplon handles including a piece of 24" duplon. Total order value was £75.00

Received the order today and the postage on the parcel was £2.13

Postage charged was £7.50!

When I queried it they tried to feed me some BS about the parcel size being charged extra at the Post Office but when I pointed out that the postage cost was on the front of the parcel they said that the extra charge was for the box. The box was a home made effort that they had done themselves with cardboard from another box and when I pointed that out they said it was because the computer is programmed to charge this amount and that there is nothing they can do :o

The same company wanted to charge me £5.00 to post a small reel of thread (again blamed the post office) and £20.00 to post rod blanks.

The crazy thing is that Guides and Blanks is the shop front for Hopkins and Holloway and I can buy the same stuff off of the H&H site for much less postage.

The other crazy thing is that I can buy the same stuff from America and get it cheaper, quicker and for less postage.

Seems some companies just don't want our business.

In future I will be voting with my feet ;)

Let's agree to respect each others views, no matter how wrong yours may be.

some take the pee ,i'v had to up my ebay postage a bit now ,not only the cost of the wrapping materials but a bit for the petrol in an 6 mile round trip to the nearest post office.

a 24mpg car drinks a bit so it all adds up ,for bigger items though its at courier cost as its picked up.

i'v had complaints about postage even when its clearly on the label it cost more than they paid so you cant win ,i sell a few lamps unless they are very well armoured the nice postie at the depo's football game with them breaks them so whilst the lamp itself if fairly light (light snigger) the whole package is heavier.

i used to charge at postage cost but bubble wrap and brown paper along with a hefty length of parcel tape adds up.

Tried to get a rod in a tube sent to devon this week, because it is over 1.5m long half of the companies don't do it. Three others said they would do it for thirty quid. Yet if it was under 1.5m it would cost £7.50 so the extra over costs a fortune.

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

Reading between the lines, Ebay are seething about sellers "upping" the P+P, to save on sellers fees coming from Ebay......:):) As they say......

"Why are you setting limits on P&P charges lower than my actual costs to dispatch?

We based our maximum P&Pcharges on recent transaction data of what sellers are charging , what is competitive in online shopping and what buyers tell us is reasonable. We believe that by offering buyers at least one competitive P&P option, sellers will see an increase in their overall sales and conversion"

I bought two items on ebay a short while ago, items were listed and the postage was 2.50. I ordered two items, they came in the same little packet (home made) and I was charged £5.00.......................both in the same packet!

The goods were still very cheap compared to my tackle shop, but I didn't leave any feedback.

I have received items where the postage was more than i paid for

Too right ebay should do something about fee avoidance, cost £0.99 postge £9.99 what is that all about, other than fraud ?

If the postage was quoted in the sale then live with it.

I always add the postage to cost before making a purchase, same as adding VAT i surpose

Hiya, Just today, I received a book off Ebay, had been lying in the PO since last Friday, (but thats another Crap Royal Mail service story)..and the P+P on it when I won it,was £5.50, sent 1st class recorded, the actual postage was £4.20, plus Recorded, Plus walking to the PO, plus the cost of paper and bubblewrap.....how the heck can that be done for £2.75 as Ebay say it should, unless its added to the item for sale...

BTW, the book cost around £16... ;)
