The press release for the petition is almost ready go but I could do with some eyes to ensure that it does not contain anything that could be shot down.

I not sure how brassy you want to make the statement, but it does contain one or two negative points, see below:

 

Your statement:

 

The bass is a slow-maturing fish and if large quantities are being caught in this way there could be severe effects on stocks.

 

"and if" would be more assertive as "and large"

 

"there could" as above "there will"

 

If your putting your neck in the noose do it fighting is my thoughts, as a quality assurance/control engineer I never gave an inch, I always let them fight for a compromise, that way I usually got what I was after.

Good stuff, but it might be more positive if the phrase "many anglers have vowed not to visit Guernsey again....until... etc" (that sounds like hearsay)

 

were rephrased to read "many (better still if you could give a figure) anglers who signed the petition added comments stating they would not visit...etc" (that sounds more factual)
