Hi Tony.

These are the scales I like the look of.

If you visit Tuppens Marine, you will see the rest of what they offer.

All good kit, and floats, no rusting, and robust.

Hope you get to try your buddys Yak soon.

If you visit www.Kayakfishingstuff.com , you will be able to see more Yaks there, and gather some good info.

YY :)

Thanks Yakity. Have been lurking around that site for some time gathering info.

Need to get some new scales for general sea fishing (my RH Specimen Hunters are too bulkly) and was looking at getting a set of Waymaster Fly Weights but:

1. They aren't digital (in the 21st century should I now be looking at digi scales)

2. Dont know how sea worthy they are if I take them kayak fishing.

Tony,

Berkley are also doing some Lip Gripper Scales.

They are Digital, and waterproof, I think.

Take a look at them, and see what you think.

Closed Digital scales like these would be great for the Yak, and the kind of conditions we fish in.

Tony Wan goes Digital in the 21st century :D:D

Yakity. :)

Hi everyone, been listening but not adding very much, the Berkley digital lip grip scales are excellent, work really well and are very accurate, means you don't have to handle the fish to much, much better for the fish if you are returning it...so far no signs of rusting. :D

Ziggy, can't you double and use the CD holder on your player as your cup holder, save a lot of space :D:D:D

On the VHF Radio side, you can get them for as little as £50 (Cobra) don't forget you need a licence and to have taken a RYA VHF course to use legally.

Check the output before you buy most are 1 and 5 watts, the higher the watts the further the signal will travel, the Cobra may have a lower wattage due to its cheaper price.

hi starvin ( & everyone else of course )

good idea about the cup holder, its just a problem when i forget its there & try to play a cd.

had forgotten about the rya course, do i have to go to brixham for that, as its embarrassing to go back there due to the mackerell incident a few years ago.

good point about the wattage, i remember my old AM cb radio.

any advice about radar reflectors, can i make one of those d.i.y. or is it a buy a ready made one.

Tony,

I only catch big fish.... :D

I've got the Big Game Digital Grip Lip Scale from the tackle shop in Southend, they advertise in Sea Angler, or Total Sea Fishing... have a thumb through in Smiths.

Should be fine with anything over a pound, under than not really worth weighing, although the scale is accurate down to a couple of ounces, or them modern things if you prefer to weigh in them.

Garfish may be a problem!

Ziggy,

How far out are you going? Radar reflector, you going out in shipping channels?

Not something I've really considered, not sure that anything you could make to fit the yak would actually register on a sonar, best to stay clear of any big ships and keep your eyes open.
