Mitchell Avorunner?

Rusty

Recommended Posts

Almost committed the cardinal sin again, popped into a local tackle shop during lunch for a ‘look’ at small size baitrunners.

I had in mind one of the Okuma Epix Pros or Interceptors but the Mitchell Avorunner caught my eye and at £40 looks very good.

How are Mitchell reels regarded these days and does anybody have an Avorunner?

I don't think Mitchell are quite the manufacturer they once were but in saying that, I bought a Mitchell Avocet reel for 15 quid or something bank-breaking like that and it does everything I want. It feels fine, it functions, it has no special features but it works and for 15 quid, I can't complain. I bought it to get me by and it's doing just that.

I almost bought a Avorunner as well, they seem really well made and feel like they can take the abuse that you'd want from a reel out in the mud and wet. I haven't bought one though so I can only agree with your initial thoughts.

I'll let you know how I get on. Took the rod in to see how it all felt (Drennan Specialist Avon/Quiver) and it seems to make an ideal mid-sized setup. The baitrunner should come in handy when Barbelling, I find watching a quiver tip for long periods very tiring but wouldn't want to leave a normal fixed spool reel unwatched for a second (from what other folk say...I haven't actually caught one yet :D ).

Good luck the reels look good, don't ingore the swims further downstream. I had a wander last week and there's some brilliant chubby spots further down but I was trotting and was too impatient. Make sure the fish photos don't disclose too much info about the location, blades of grass can be easily identified you know.

How did you get on last Saturday? I winkled a small Chub from a very high and fast 'you know where' and a few Roach and Grayling from 'that other place' :D

On Saturday i failed spectacularly due to the fact that Mike had the best end of the boat and the best deadbaits the best lures and he is just a jammy git its got nothing to do with skill ,at least not when my boat partner catches more than me and sits at the other end of the :boat: with that

look you know the one :1a: but i am having therapy for it and can now say Mike is a better fisherman than me and smile at the same time :D:lol:;) .

Went after the chub on Sunday afternoon and lost a big one then missed a unmissable bite with my last bit of Paste just as the light went :wallbash: ,Not out this weekend but will check the conditions for the one after and let you know ,Photos of fish giving away the location hah fish i should be so lucky Steve.

These would be worth looking at. IMO much better than the later versions.

Yep, that's exactly like the one I just got off ebay (just over £50 inc p&p). It might be second-hand but it's been looked after and is far better than a different brand new reel at that price.

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music
