seeing as we have some S.L.R. users on here ,i`m trying to get the insructions for a Philips profesional 45 ,P546G thyristor (what is a thyristor)CL.X ,it seems to work and its reflash time is very very fast,but i need the instructions to get the finer points,anyone have one they could scan for me :)

p.s.i`v tried the philips site (10/10) for uselessnes and an e`mail revealed they know less about it than i :mad:

Amateur Photographer used to, and still may, carry an ad for 'Old Time Cameras'. Atleast I think that is the name. They carry instructions for most anything photographic ever made. They will either sell you an original or a copy. Might be worth hitting Amateur Photographer on a search button!

You can use a slave John but why oh why have manufacturers left off such a simple thing as a synch socket? If nothing else its a good add-on for retailers. Even top of the range cameras are limited in this way.

I agree with you there Peter, a hotshoe or synch socket should be standard on all cameras imo. The flash that comes as standard on most compacts (film or digital) is, quiet frankly, pathetic! I'd much rather have the option of buying a big 'gun and thereby double or triple the flash-range.

 

jon_a Before you go out and buy the latest all-singing slr or digital camera, go to a large camera shop (Jessops for eg) and check out their second-hand cameras. Also spread the news around your friends that you are in the market for a good camera....

what a great site ,having a huge collection of elderly tv service manuals i may be of some use to someone ,i will have to peruse it closely :D

I dread to think what your mag covers look like with 5 megapixel digital images. They're just not good enough for a professional mag.

The fact is that top digital photography from pro Canons (11+ megapixels) is great fro A4 covers and DPS (double-page spreads). But at the moment it can't compete with High-quality, fine-grain Fuji Velvia.

And to say that film is obsolete is nonsense. What about medium format?

But I agree that for ordinary AMATEUR use, digital is superb. Just go for the maximum megapixels/good lens.
