Shakespeare have a long track record of doing absolutely everything wrong for the British market. They have never been able to grasp the fact that kaleidoscopic creations with all the taste of a speedway rider's leathers, are considered to be a sure sign of everything that is naff and crap. They have recently brought out a range of very subdued carp rods, but their previous ill-advised efforts do not exactly inspire confidence. If you buy one, it might be wise to paint over their logo.

English as tuppence, changing yet changeless as canal water, nestling in green nowhere, armoured and effete, bold flag-bearer, lotus-fed Miss Havishambling, opsimath and eremite, feudal, still reactionary, Rawlinson End.

But guys - are the rods any good as rods? Never mind that they don't have the 'look' that appeals, how about their action and durability and all of that.

i got a shakespeare zenith rod 2/12lb Tc cant fault it at £50 it will out sign many costing 3 times as much. Its not the rolls royce of rods but it does the job and does it well. Do you want a rod that has nothing flash but you can relie on then i dont think you could go wrong. If you want a rod to be in with crowd then you need to be looking at something With a name on it.

Cant say it fairer than that. Haveing owned many and still use them i cant find a fault in the shakespeare rods these day, they use to be poor but many people who knock them havent used one in say the last 10 years

Hi Rickster. I don't mean any disrespect to you, but have you used/owned others you can make comparrisons with?

Its not a case of having a rod to be in the in-crowd, as you put it, its all about quality. I have looked at thei rods in the past and they were rubbish compared to others I have owned and now own.

The only of their rods I have ever owned are various ugly stik rods. Balance and action aren't the greatest so they make a poor lure rod IMO since you are doing lots of casting.

But for any sort of bait fishing, they never give up.

I have no idea how well they do with other types of rods though.
