Rod Licence 'Tax Disk' - A Thought

I've just added another press release from the EA here:

http://www.anglersnet.co.uk/news/articles/601.html

If they are going to 'blitz' us anglers, wouldn't it be a good idea to have some kind of 'tax disk' that we could attach to a bag/box and leave at the top of the swim?

Imagine how frustrating it would be, stalking a fish, only to have somebody stomp up and disturb the swim.

They're doing a job and need to do it, but I reckon a 'checkable' system that avoids disturbing law-abiding anglers would be a good idea.

what like the freindly yellow coated bailiff :D

i suggested a stick on "permit" for boxes as pole anglers get a trifle excited being asked for theirs with their pole tip nearly on the far bank and having to take it apart to get inside their multi drawed box for the permit ,it would be also ok for disabled anglers etc but as with most good and practical suggestions it only attracted stifeled sniggers at the bailiffs meeting

Why don't the EA give the bar code readers that the they apparently use (I'm not sure, I've never been checked  ) to all fishery managers/baliffs? That way when you pay for your day ticket you can get your licence checked too?

Would it work? Too expensive?

The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad.

EA officers do not have 'bar code' readers, they can check you have the physical licence on you or by mobile phone that you have purchased one this year.

NB: If you have purchased it NOT online in the last 6 weeks or so you may not yet be on the database.

re: 3rd rod, I do hope they check that the angler involved actualy fishes all three at once? I've often got 3 rods set up (4 with spod) and from a distance it can be hard to tell what rods on a pod are in use and which ones ar'nt. (I've been accused a few times on lakes by those who should use bino's before mouthing off!)

PS: Edd's right, no licence no ticket - simple.

Tog, I was checked about 5 years ago and didn't have my licence with me.

I was able to provide proof of my name and address and told them which Post Office I bought my licence from.

They referred to a small hand held unit (not a mobile phone) and confirmed that I had a licence and told me what date I bought it on.

A "tax disc" on fishing bags wouldn't be very practical for those of us that have a different bag, depending on which type of fishing we are going to be doing.

It would be if it clipped on.

i reckon fishery owners should check people to see if they have a licence when they pay for their day ticket. no licence no fishing.
Great idea and one I`ve long thought of. The only problem is greedy fishery owners who aren`t really going to turn away a percentage of non licence holding anglers thus losing out on potential day ticket/match money.

Now, if the sale of EA licences was extended to include fisheries (maybe give them a bit of commission) then the problem would be solved overnight. No licence to produce at the counter in the morning, no problem, we sell them.....
