Back up storage.

I keep meaning to back up files on my PC, mainly pictures, stories, etc.

Rather than fiddle about with CD's I am thinking of using a memory key.

Whilst I appreciate that the size of the one I need (assuming it will do the job) depends on what I put on it (which is difficult to calculate), what would be a good size that should cope with just about everything ?

Also, can you select to delete, or overwrite, some of the stuff in storage on the key ?

No uber technical replies please, as you can see I ain't too bright.

why not an external drive i have a 250gig one its software incrementally backs up chosen stuff (files ,folders or even partitions) at a chosen time each night.

the drives also big enough to chuck anything on you wish

its faster to use the incremental way it just saves stuff new since the last save ,mines USB but you can get network version using ethernet or no doubt wireless now.

i picked mine up still sealed for £15 at a boot fair the lady hadnt a clue what it was ,i didnt haggle

rather than the device itself its far easier to use software to do the backup thats where the joy of incremental comes in otherwise you will be manually moving stuff across all night.mines a freecom drive

I have an external hard drive but I also use an on-line backup. Running a business it would be a disaster if my accounts were lost. My son-in-law recommended Mozy and I set my laptop to backup to it every evening. www.mozy.com. It's free for the first 2Gb.

If you're looking for a good backup program I'd recommend Acronis. It backups but also you can use it to completely wipe your hard drive if your selling/disposing of your computer. Another feature is it allows you to install programs to a separate partition and if you find there is a problem you can remove it without the program having mucked up your PC

Another vote here for Mozy.com.

And a vote for Acronis + an external Hard Disk. I dont even back up onto the external HDD now, I just moved my 'My Documents' Folder onto the external HDD.

Grab one at Tescos

The 1TB Iomega drive is very good value.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.
