New to pendulum casting - advice please

I've been fishing for years, and got back into beachcasting a couple of years ago - I went long rod route, but not the same somehow so I'm now trying pendulum.

I use a 7ht or Abu 6500 Hi-speed, and an Abu esprit or Shaky salt - both 13' mult versions. I use 15lb/0.35mm mono.

Based on the footie pitches on the common, I reckon I'm casting about 120-140yds (I've got 3' of bright rope taped on the leader in case of snap offs, what with horses and dogs about)

I've found 6oz works better on the Abu rod, but wondering where extra distance could come from (apart from me getting better, obviously). I run the Abu with 4 blocks active, magnets off unless windy.

SO, I know that line lay, rig streamlining, line diameter, reel oil, end float, spool balancing, new rod, new reel can all potentially increase distance, but it seems I've hit a bit of a wall in terms of improvement and wonder what's next on the list in having a noticeable effect. I'd guess that with my gear a top caster would be hitting 180yds or so?

Any advice please?

Look for a good casting instructor,he may tell you that you're doing everything right and your gear isn't upto it,or you're gear is ok and you haven't quite got the cast right, either way a few quid spent on casting lessons from a good instructor won't be money wasted....

Get yourself on the UKSF forum. If you can find a local casting club they will be able to bring you one in no time at all.

Welcome to the forum, don't go yet as i'm sure the resident beachie H A will be around to offer some advise.

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

For those that can get to Sittingbourne, Kent Sportcast have a meet on 31st May (see: http://www.kentsportcast.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/ ).

(John French, the casting isntructor can give you a lesson there if you cross his palm with silver. He recently met with a bunch of guys from my club, who are now all flinging lead further than they believed they ever would).

The meets tend to be relaxed and informal, with plenty of opportunity to watch and study others' techniques, and a friendly bunch willing to pass on tips and answer questions.

Well worth spending a Sunday and adding a few yards to put you amongst the cod and mackerel shoals, or out to where the thornbacks are feeding, when others are struggling.

It's mostly been said.

I've been coaching for as long as I can remember! (A long time till senility set in, then I fergits)

I did my PAA + UKSport upgrades around 10 years ago.

Get a Coach OR make contact with a UKSF 'local-to-you-meet' and be very humble!

What bothers me, is that a list of licensed and qualified (1st Aid/Child Protection Cert/CRB checked/competent) coaches for sea angling and casting used to be on the old NFSA.org website.

When I check Angling Trust, there is no such lists for any disciplines.

Your best bet for a casting coach local to you is via Sea Angler mag on 01733 465638 (Paul) or 01733 465759 (Giulia), who should be able to put you in touch from their listings.
