Hooks in fingers??????? Nowt..........

Stick your finger in a model airplane prop while it's doing 8,000 rpm. :D

A mate of mine put a treble in his face one time, another put one through the back of his hand and another one of the lads put a treble into the base of his middle finger, the hook was still in the pikes mouth.

We all laughed on each occasion but all 'surgery' was carried out on the bank with out 'much' fuss.

I loved those days of 5/10 mile hikes along the banks spinning.

We use to go out as a group of 5 or six and alternate swims.

Shame we don't do it now all down to ill health and lack of contact.

The good old days, I remember them well.

One day I was looking after my mother's spaniel and I took it fishing, as I was tieing my hook on the dog got caught up in the line and ran off pulling the hook into my finger. I ran after dog, dog liked this game and kept running, five minutes of hilarity ensued as dog, followed by me, follwed by fishing rod ran round the field. Eventually I caught the dog then I had to get the hook out myself. I have never been keen on barbs since that day.

BUDGIE:

Oh BTW there was a story doing the rounds in Mequinenza about a young local lad trying to hand land a big cat from a boat who became attached via a 12/0 and went overboard!

:D

Growing old is inevitable but growing up is optional

Just one thing to say on crushed barbs.Make sure you close them completley or better still break them off.The most difficult unhooking operation Ive ever had to do was on a pike where the barb hadnt been quite closed.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

To second what Budgie said, I always try the 'wooly' test on hooks I have crushed the barb on. Hook it into a wooly jumper or other garment and then take it out, if it doesn't come out cleanly, the barb isn't crushed properly and needs a second go....

Hooked myself in the ear with a size 12 zulu whilst fishing in a gale, local doctor cut it out.

Fishing with a guy who put a size 14 orange partridge into his eyebrow. At his request I pushed it all the way through and snipped it in half. It was like a bloodbath.

Fishing on Blyth south pier and one of the anglers was casting out with a Scarbourgh and managed to hook his mate in the ass with a 6/0 - that was a hospital job!

And they call it the gentle art of angling! its a wonder anglers do not pay higher insurance premiums.

Don't give them any ideas

The third day into my holiday I spent an hour getting stitched. I took the blade off my grandmothers lawnmower so I could sharpen it. The sharpened blade spun in my hand as she didn't have a vice and cleanly sliced my middle and third finger 2/3rds the length. Even found an artery and tendon. Luckily no long term damage and only a bit disfigured :D

I carry private insurance and wanted it made clear that no-one but myself was responsible. Wouldn't you know they are actively pursuing my grandmother because it happened on her land? This is why insurance premiums are so high they should be catching those that falsely claim an injury not those that are legit.
