I would then get in thouch with Rosie Barham via Elton and publish the letters FIRST but with Rosies sense of humour(ghost writing), that should shut the "ex friend" up and make her version useless

I was always under the impression that once you wrote a letter to someone, it became their property.

Thats how people get away with publishing and selling letter from Celebrities, Politicians etc.

 

I hope for your Wife's peace of mind that the current laws offer some protection.

 

Another realistic way of looking at it is, that nobody knows your Wife, or her friend (I assume they are not famous), so who will be interested in publishing the book, or wanting to read it ?
