about 20 years ago it became 'sport' for kids and teenage yobs to use crossbows (Rambo connection) to shoot the local wildlife in parks, an illegal act! The result, ban the legal shooting of quarry with any weapon capable of propelling a bolt/arrow/spear.

 

High-powered crossbows were also the weapon of choice for organised gangs of professional deer poachers around that time.

Unfortunately they still are in many cases.
