Wingham Fish-In Catch Report

Recommended Posts

Some great catches, despite the 'doom and gloom' weather forecasts before the event. :)

Congratulations to all, but especially to Tigger on that 'monster' of a fish, well worth the 700ish miles round trip I'll bet.

A mixture of congratulations and commiserations to Den, a great haul and a PB to boot, but losing that one must have taken some of the shine off. We all know what it's like to lose a big fish, but for it to be so close, and to lose it in such a way must be gut wrenching, I feel for you mate.

Wingham sounds such a 'magical' place, I knew back in March there was no chance of me going,............. but maybe next year.

One thing puzzles me about Wingham though, I've never heard a mention of roach being caught there. I know that there are plenty of preds in and Steve mentioned the cormorant invasion, but I would have thought that a few large specimens would have survived.

Have any ever been caught Steve?

John.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

Gozzer, when I first saw Wingham about 7 years ago, I had in mind to fish for big roach. I joined, but due to severe sciatica and being unable to walk more than a few yards, I gave up my ticket. I had the feeling that there must be a few in there...............................but finding one could be a lifes work :)

Just a quick note to say a big thank-you to Steve, Peggy, Terry, Glyn and the Wingham members for another fantastic fish-in. I've got to get on with work now :( so will post a report later, along with an update to the ultimate bobbin thread.

Hi Rob, most came from the area to the right of the 3 humps, but two were from out towards the furthest RH hump (not really my swim). The target line was one at each end of the strip of rushes on the far bank, and the third rod was roving.

Re the wire on Den's platform: to be fair to the bailiffs the wire was folded underneath the platform. As Den explained to me, his picture is after he pulled the wire up to show it.

One possible solution may be to finish the wire just before the edge of the platform and cover the end with a strip of wood. The disadvantage is that this has health and safety implications as someone could trip over the wood.

However, we'll be looking into what can be done for the best.

In the car park shortly after he lost the monster Den was visibly shaking! I really felt for him!
