My method for Wingham

Last year Richard was kind enough to give us all details of his rig and bait which he used to such good effect. I studied it, saved the pics and had it as a backup if my own ideas failed this year.

I have been asked to tell my "secrets" :) so here goes...

First off, the rig,

DSCN0285.jpg

Leadcore, weighted feeder (2oz) leaded on one side to land the same way up each time. 3.5" of stiff John Roberts rig tube sticking out the front and a 4" hooklength. No hair, 8 or 9 magggots straight on a No 4 Super specialist. Very sharp, fairly fine in the wire, and they dont damage the maggots to much so they stop wriggling.

The mix is soaked halibut pellet, hemp and a bit of vitalin to stiffen it up. It should be stiff enough to ensure it stays in the feeder all the way to the bottom. Maggots mixed in so they slowly escape over a period.

This setup was tested in water to ensure it did what I wanted it to do.

Thinking behind it was to have a steady trickle of escaping maggots with my little bunch close by. No hair needed, I wanted the fish to get the hook in its mouth before feeling any resistance, and ensure hookups.

Fished running but with a fairly tight line, I use 1.5oz backleads and set the rod so the tip is slightly under tension.

I am fortunate enough to fish quite a lot so had already tested this setup quite a lot and caught carp, tench and roach on it, so I knew it worked.

Well it does :) I caught steadily for almost all of the 3 days, only 2 after dark.

Nope Den. Not at all.

I'm pretty sure that some of the newish anglers on the forum will be as clueless as I am about exactly how the rig looks.

If it turns out that everyone but me knows exactly how you did it then I'll just enjoy seeing it and phooey on the rest of them.

Should have read your initial post right first time. I am not a great fan of leadcore personally but I very much like the idea which is a bit like a modification of the old in line leads and I think that I could adapt the rig by replacing the leadcore element with a couple or three feet of loaded rig tube. One things for sure, it certainly worked well and thanks for sharing it.
