You might find this a little sad, but I seem to get as much fun from looking at my lure and spinner collection as I do fishing with them. I would not describe myself as a lure collector but with the predator season now under way, I have spent the last few weeks going through my lure boxs changing hooks and generally lovingly looking at them.

 

My recent fishing trips have been for Carp and Catfish and I have spent more time preparing my Pike lures then sorting out my tackle and bait for these trips. God only knows how long I have spent playing with my lures and I have not even been Piking yet this season.

 

I'm planning a few trips to Bury Hill over the next few weeks, so at least they will get some use.

 

Just wondering does any one else get as much pleasure from playing with their tackle as fishing with it.

 

I assume the fluff chuckers must enjoy looking through their boxs, or does everyone just think as lures, flies etc as a purely functional bit of fishing kit like shot, hooks etc.

Reviewing your lures also allows you to reevaluate lures that had been destined to the bottom of the tackle box because they were thrown once or twice and didn't catch. By looking at such lures, you might have new ideas about how to improve their catch ratio, whether it's a coat or paint, a bit of weight, different sized hooks...whatever.

 

You also buy some lures that you didn't fully understand when you first bought them and again, they lay gathering dust at the bottom of your tackle box. Once you've grasped how to fish lures of a similar ilk, you might just find that dusty old lure you thought you'd never throw again, has a new lease of life.

 

Something made you buy these lures in the first place.

I have got quite a lure collection. Though I'm not an avid lure angler. But they are quite collectible things. I was thinking about putting some of mine in a display case and put on the wall. Just keeping my favourite ones for the tackle bag.

Yipee it's not only me. The worried looks from my wife put a stop to that so now I twiddle whilst e-bay window shopping.

 

There are some items of tackle which I think do hold an attraction other than just their functional purpose. Rods & fixed spool reels don't really do it for me and bivvies, clothing etc I'll only buy based on their practical uses. Home made cork bodied floats though and those dinky little spinning multipliers are beginning to tug on my wallet and I can feel a purchase coming on. Problem is I'd never use the multiplier.

It's never a 'six', let's put it back

lol Good job I don't own one!

 

I do like to go through all my gear at the start of the autumn as it's when I do a lot of my fishing.

 

As for the lure collection I'd like to get is smaller...half the buggers I lug around never see the light of day let alone a pikes mouth!
