Effect of ice melting into a lake/pool

Is this ice from an entirely natural surrounding or will it include road surface contaminates?

As the topic title suggests I am wondering about the effect to fish behaviour and feeding after an inch and a half layer of ice has melted into the water of a lake?

Thank you

I would say that it depends upon a whole range of other variables, like location of the water, size, esp depth and species present. On our local lake it would mean, you wont catch, but thats the same in winter whatever the weather conditions.

This may help you.....Water is heaviest at 39.4degF so settles on the bottom. Colder/warmer water stays above, so the thawed out ice water should remain above the "warmer" water.

other than that, I can't help you :)

Won't stop me going tomorrow though.

That's why ice forms on the surface. If it stays cold enough for long enough, then the ice will eventually form all the way to the bottom.

Oddly enough, the same goes for warmer water, it will stay on the surface or above the heaviest layer.

Still not sure whether it is of much help though :)

Since the ice has melted filling the river i have pike fished 3 times. two blanks (not even a sniff) fishing ledgered deadbaits. Then 3 runs using paternostered deadbait. I take from this that its bloody cold on the bottom and mr pike doesn't like it.
