Lampreys. Any in your local river system?

All really interesting - I know there is a report sightings campaign at the moment - I just wondered how many forum members had seen either of them. They are both listed as national biodiversity action plan species.

The sightings you've had sound great.

Yes I agree.Having never seen one except on the end of a set of trebles I was quite suprised to read the posts.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

I am a usually a regular on the Teme at Worcester and can guarantee that early season if conditions permit you wil see at least one or two each session.

Only fished it three times last year but each time saw at least three each day.

Also for the first time ever saw my first Severn Lamprey which was running the near bank where the Teme joins the Severn.

Week later spotted one the nearside bank by the Worcester New Bridge.

A friend foul hooked one a few years ago - weighed 4lb 6oz impressive but ugly.

It was funny to see so many scared grown men.

:lol::lol::lol:

The brook lamprey is harmless - the adults don't feed at all. I've caught plenty by hand.

However, having seen what a big sea lamprey can do to a fish, I'd make damn sure it didn't fasten on me!

I have only ever seen one Brook lamphrey (confirmed from photo by the EA) this was attached to a 13lb Barbel caught from the Kennet a few years ago.

I would suggest that was a RIVER lamprey, whatever the "expert" from the EA said.
