Batten Down, Boys, Batten Down

On the bright side, it should weaken and speed up forward progress which are good things.

However, 100mph sustained winds when it makes landfall won't be much fun for anyone except really, really hard core surfers.

Any idea what will be the stage of the tide when it comes ashore?

Hopefully, it will be bottom of the tide at landfall. What I'm worried about is the 80 ft tree only 60 ft away. The ground is waterlogged which means that there will be no resistance if the winds start pushing the tree. As it is on National Park ground, we cannot cut it down.

Just be glad it is down from Cat5 strength and will hopefully be weaker still by the time it makes landfall.

I was lucky in that I could remove the trees in my yard that could potentially have hit the house since wet ground and strong winds are a dangerous combination.

Not so powerful now but huge and wet and 90-100 mph winds with stronger gusts are still nothing to be ignored.

It now looks as if landfall will be at Proserpine, just N of Mackay.

Its not far away from the coast as I type

I expect you have taken all the precautions you could by now, so good luck - hope you can come through unscathed and undamaged.
