fibreglass rod. I was given the rod which is about 4 years old, but I'm told a replacement will cost £1000.

Who told you this? because without even bothering to ask the details (ie make of rod etc) I can tell you after many years of being involved with fishing tackle that its absolute ******!

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

You are right on that one Bugie.

Unless he is having a one off blank made to a unusual standard

That is a lot of money for a rod I cant think of anyone charging that much even for a hand made personally tailored newly built cane rod even if you had it gold plated...carbon - cheaper, composite cheaper, boron - cheaper, kevlar - cheaper, hardy - cheaper, hand built bruce and walker - cheaper, harrison - cheaper, daiwa match pro tournament much cheaper, I could go on for ages. Does anyone know what rod could cost that much? Maybe a pole?

I have searched and as an old crazy who likes hollow fibreglass even though some of my rods may be sought after vintage in various materials I am puzzled as to what it could be. but if you are paying that sort of money I would love to know who thinks your rod is worth that much and are they buying because at that price I will sell you any of my rods even ones I have made myself and I value them very highly (they cost a fortune in blood sweat and tears) plus I might have to up my insurance.

I have not seen or heard of the most sought after rods fetching that sort of money but if they are I will sell all mine and buy a Bugatti veyron or a pagani and give up angling and fish for a different sort of species...hehehe although thinking about it at my age fishing is safer...hehehe I could not handle other species so I guess I better stick to angling and a car I can get my rods in.

I don't think you can get an Edward Barder rod of any sort for less than a grand. And his three-piece fly rods are £1,800 each.

I would assume that it is a carbon fibre pole, not a fibreglass rod, although confusing the two seems more like the kind of mistake a man walking his dog along the towpath would make than one a man fishing with it would make...

Yes and his coarse rods are between £1,200 and £1,500 but they are built cane and not fibreglass which the rod in question is.

If you were, and it sounds like you were, obstructing the tow path, then it's an accident which was caused by your negligence, simple as that. Accidents happen, life's a bitch, time to move on :)
