Just, what the tourist industry needs here!

There have been several of these "Killer jellyfish" found along some of the best known tourist beaches here this morning.(I know they are not true jellyfish).

I can see the tabloid headlines now......

Your right Dave, not a true jellyfish, they are siphonophores. Hurts like hell if you get stung by one but fatalaties are very rare. Edited by corydoras

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

The tabloids are not concerned with taxonomy - "KILLER JELLYFISH" is what sells newspapers. :wallbash:

Those of us who travel widely come across all sorts of potentially nasty organisms - the trick is to be clued up about recognition, habitat and season, extent of danger, preventative action, and first aid. B)

Especially around Denzil avenue.

Given me an idea there, a carefully deployed series of patially inflated plastic bags and a warning sign could clear the beach of swimmers & give us a chance of fishing during daylight in the summer.

It's okay - volcanic ash will stop us all from visiting, anyway :)

By the way, I'm back in Puerto Pollensa this summer :)
