Filming animals in the wild 'is a breach of their privacy'

As a zoologist I personally think the idea's a pile of crap..........no scientific evidence to back it up...
My sentiments entirely, at the risk of being accused of making an ad hominem attack against Dr Mills the man is a fruit loop who should stick to his field.

The other thing about this story that bugs me is the fact that he chooses to publish his paper in some Mickey Mouse journal that costs more than £100 a throw, so I will never be able to afford to read it. It shouldn't be allowed. :wallbash:

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

the twitcher variety that will drop everything and run up to the Shetlands or some other remote outpost just to see a bird that really ought not be there. I don't think that most of them give two hoots about the birds themselves, just another tick on a list.

Norma and I like to watch birds, but in their natural habitat - we travel the world, enjoying the different habitats, watching birds and other animals, and catching the fish that are in the waters we visit. Being trained scientists, we record what we see as a matter of course. Notes on behaviour, not just ticks.

Sometimes we come across twitchers, although we try to avoid them. "Ticks on lists" just about sums it up - once the bird is sighted and "ticked" they lose interest.

I regard the average twitcher as something between a trainspotter and a football hooligan - but I overheard a group of twitchers that turned up (too late) to see a white-billed diver we had been watching the day before referring to themselves as "real birders" - as in, "It's annoying that the bird left before the real birders got here"

It implies an advanced awareness of self and an ability to conceptualise concepts such as personal space, privacy and modesty that simply are not present.

WOW! I have a feeling that David Marlborough FZS discussed something along those lines in his Pragmatic Hypothesis in the early 1960s.

What is a "conceptualised concept" ?

Is it similar to a "tautologicalised repetition" ?

I put forward the pragmatic hypothesis that it is :P

Dunno mate and I was never sure as to what a pragmatic hypothesis was either. I asked Dick Walker if he knew what it was and he told me that he had had one some years earlier but he broke the handle on it and threw it away. :D
