Can you catch pike now?

Can you still catch pike in summer aswell as the traditional winter?????

Never caught a pike before but was sitting having lunch in Cox's Yard, Stratford, Warwickshire (a riverside coffee shop) when i saw a amazing pike swim past in the crystal clear shallow water, aswell as chub swimming around all day.

 

Anyway i thought.... I wonder if you can catch pike in summer, they look like a beautiful catch.

 

I actually have quite alot of pike kit, as i was supposed to do it in winter, but never got round to it.

 

My question is: Can you catch pike in summer, and how??????

Yes. What you really need, though, is a nice fresh mackerel for bait... (runs for the hills)

I have this local lake near me, not very big, but has got pike in that nobody knows about.... I was thinking about going down their everyday and chucking in some white bait from sainsburys.

I was thinking the white bait so that they will love a nice juicy mackerel in a few days time.

 

Anyway, i was wondering where i should put the bait. The shape of the pool is exactly the same as a bubble writing 'V'

but i was wondering where to put they bait, there is a small which is a small in-cut which is completly slack and sheltered from the wind, any good?????

I would spin with spoons and plugs. Then when you locate them, try fishing with deadbaits.

NO LURES ALOUD!!!!!

I know its anoying but the lake was forced to have pike in when the whole place flooded and the pike and eels got in....

the lake isnt privatly owned either, its sort of a comunal lake thing.

That's a shame as it is the ideal method for Pike in summer. There is a theory that in Summer Pike can wolf down a deadbait or live bait for that matter very quickly with out registering on you bite indication. With lure fishing you have a much better chance of being able to strike and hook the fish in the bony part of the mouth as soon as they hit the lure.

 

I don't know how true the theory that they swallow dead baits quickly in the summer is as I have only dead baited during the winter, and I am sure better Pike anglers then me on here can give more information on it. I don't want to sound all preachy, however I am not sure if the summer is the ideal time to start deadbaiting for Pike if you have not done it before for a number of reasons.

Cheat...hehehe

 

Bait up an area for small and medium sized silvers near a nice clump of weeds, as well as adding your deadbait gifts...I would do it for about a week then when I was ready for the pike I would twitch the deadbait a few inches every minute or so in the hope of tricking the Pike into thinking it was an injured fish and therefore easy pickings...

 

But that is me and I am no Pike angler in fact I have only caught one Pike in all my angling life and that was when a tiny Jack would not let go of my Roach and got itself caught.

 

I have no doubt the many expert Pike anglers on here will give you far more experienced and detailed advice than I ever could.
