Luggage for the lake

Morning all,

after the weekend of purchasing no end of stuff. A month ago I had nothing. Now I have:

Float Rod

Carp Rod

2 x reels

Landing net

Unhooking Mat

Bank sticks

Rod Pod

2 x bite alarm

Umbrella

Various other bits and bobs (line, floats, bombs, rigs etc)

I need something to put all of this in plus bait and lunch! and was looking for suggestions, I have not had a good look but this seemed ok http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/part...%7C14419241.htm

Cost needs to be under £60

I also need a tackle box, any suggestions? a colleague of mine told me to go and have a look round B & Q. Any other suggestions?

Cheers

Ben

The suggestion to try B&Q or a similar shop is a good one to pick up boxs for good quality boxs. I bought a nail and screw box about 10 years ago for around £2 and use this for all my small terminal tackle. I could not help adding a bit of camo tape to make it look more like fishing tackle, but it is still going strong.

I also picked up a carry case style tool box last autumn from B&Q for £14.99 for all my predator gear. Its basicaly four lure tackle boxs that slide into a carrying arrangement with a handle and it proved great for my lures, pike floats and weights etc.

Tesco are also selling camo holdalls at the moment for £9.99 & £14.99 and I was thinking of getting a few for over night sessions for clothes, food etc but I am sure they would work well as general fishing equipment bags and at a much cheaper price then the tackle companies charge.

It is also worth keeping an eye out for the Aldi tackle sales, often when they get fishing gear in someone on AN posts about it and they are often good value and look dcecent quality but do seem to fly of the shelfs very quickly.

If you have an army surplus store near you, go and have a look there. Very good for clothes too. A good look around a decent tackle shop is a good idea though, you need to be able to physically hold them and get a proper idea of sizes, etc.

For tackle boxes, again a good tackle shop or somewhere like B&Q.

+1 for B&Q. Make sure you get a box and holdall FAR bigger than you need, your collection will grow exponentially and after a session will also seemingly get a bit bigger too as nothing ever fits back right when you gotta leave. Especially if you're later than you said you'd be!

Another vote for B&Q/Homebase/Halfords here. Basic cantilever tool boxes cost about 2/3 of the equivalent anglers tackle box, and are often better made (my first one, bought from a motorists discout shop, lasted over 25 years before it cracked near a hinge - I now use it for storing some of my fly-tying stuff). Recently I bought a collection of assorted opaque 'bits-boxes' from Homebase for about £7, well under 1/4 the cost you would have to pay from a tackle shop.

As for the large seat-boxes to keep everything in, don't bother with expensive stuff when Argos do a perfectly functional black plastic one for not a lot of money. You can sit on it if you like, but I prefer to use a cheap folding chair with a (tinned) drinks holder in one arm.

Oh, and don't forget to turn off your 'phone when fishing, so as not to disturb other anglers <----- excuse for the missus ;)
