After The swan

It was a recent dull night. Twilight zone appraoching. I was clocking more bats than anything else. Alarms were silent, most of the bivvy boys were inside watching tele.

A swan was grubbing about on the surface around my float. Just as he pulled away, ding!, float went, chunky perch appeared (about 1lb I s'pose, no I did not measure or weigh it!). All went quiet. I could not even get the damn rudd to feed. Swan (same or another ???) came, had a mooch about, ding, float went, another perch (about 1/2 lb).

I could not get that b*oody swan to come back.

Reminds me of a slow day on the Kennet many moons ago. After fishing for ages without a touch a whole flock (or whatever the collective noun is) of swans started topping and tailing just above me. Bites started almost immediately (nature's groundbaiting!) and IIRC, I ended up with half a dozen nice dace and a brace of 1½ perch.

It is a known fact that if you are fishing a canal, the best time to get a fish is just after a boat has gone past which is due to the bottom being churned up ........ same with swans I suppose!

Swans in large numbers - well, you can speak of a herd or a whiteness if they are on land or a wedge if they are flying in one of those V formations.

Yep I though bread would do it

But it didn't

I tried dry ground bait, casters (Swan liked these then I soon ran out).

Dust & crud out of bait bag.

Clearly it must have been time for home and bed... so I did as well.
