This isn't a wind-up, if you leave a freshly loaded spool of line in a bucket of cold water for 24 hours it does away with virtually all the line twist problems usually associated with new line. I have used it for anything between 2lb and 15 lb line, gives excellent results!

Regards

Chris

Soaking line in soapy water was a common technique for getting your mainline to sink easily (especially when using the waggler). Although I have done that in the past, I would not use it now simply because the soap will stay in the water :(

I have to admit I have never heard of the idea of soaking spools. I always load with the spool on it's end and ensure the coils go the right way. Mind you I wouldn't worry about it now as England are now playing on Sat (which is a real pain as I am desperately trying to re-schedule a shooting competition so the two don't clash :( ).

Rob,

why not combine the shooting competion with the England game.Just fly over there and shoot the bloody lot of them!

Line soaking does work and does cut down twist. personally, I believe that line twist occurs most when you row your baits out, with the baitrunner on. But then what do I know, I only ever seem to fish about 10-20 yards away anyway, it's where most of my fish are.

What i know soaking does do though, is remove any residual lubricant left over from when line is made. It improves the overall "feel" of the line and reduces the memory (loops) problems.

I tried this for the first time a few weeks ago with an Okuma reel I bought a wee while back. The first load was damaged looking and the line was badly twisted in places. The bulk spool looked fine though.I thought it was the reel till I read a post about soaking sppols on this forum I think.I reloaded the spool with the same bulk line and left it in the sink all night.I hav'nt had any bother since.Imagine thinking the Okuma reel was buggered...silly me.
