Any regrets about not photographing or weighing a fish?

I was fishing at Littlebrook for Roach and started catching some good sized Tench, Every now and then I caught a Roach which I guessed at "maybe a pound and a half", and these were put back immediately (roach and keepnets don't mix well).

 

I did keep one though..again "about a pound and a half"....this, when weighed, was 1lb 15oz! I had probably returned my first "TWO" :(:(

I wish I had got a photo of my only 20lb pike. I love piking but got stuck at 17lb, had a few of that weight. Anyway was doing my 7th night on a tough carp water and hadn't had a carp yet. Finally got the run on a red pop-up and after a 5 minute scrap the fish surfaced, bloody 23lb pike. I was gutted that a) it wasn't the carp I had worked so hard for, and B) it was the 20lb pike I had been trying to catch for years, then I get it on a pop-up! Was so annoyed at the time that I didn't take a photo. Regretted that ever since as it makes a good story and is still my biggest pike by a mile. Maybe I'll beat it this winter......

When I got back into fishing again around 5 years ago I used old gear that I still had plus a few bits and bobs newly bought.

Fishing the local res for roach I had heard it contained some nice perch so took a few prawns with me just in case.

After a good few roach the swim went dead, I thought pike or perch about.

So with my grandadies old milbro float rod I hooked on a prawn and cast out. After it had been pulled around by a few small roach the float sailed away and I struck into my prize. After a short scrap I slid the net under a perch that to this day I am sure was over 3lb but I will never know.

I have been back many times using worm and prawn but never had another perch, in fact ive had more on sweetcorn.

 

 

That's the odd thing about fishing, these sort of fish do not always come around again. I've caught 2lb Roach and Rudd before I got the bug for having a camera on me all the time. It never bothered me as I always thought later on in life I will improve as an angler and will be catching much bigger fish, maybe even a few 3lb Roach or Rudd :rolleyes: but it never worked out that way :D

No, not bothered about weighing a fish or photographing a fish, I know I caught him, so he or she knows they were caught. For me its always been just between me and the fish.

 

Wish I felt the same but as I never took pictures of fish in my teens, well I did from time to time on a rubbish 110 camera, but I used to leave it in the tackle bag for whole seasons, summer, autumn and winter and so the film would always be ruined and the pictures would never come out :D

 

So as I had no pictures of the good fish from my early years, I never bothered to get a camera when I started working as it seemed odd to only have pictures from a part of my life. However about 6 years ago when I bought a home PC, I decided to get a digital camera as I liked the idea of instant pics and so from then on I have got hooked with photographing fish. Plus it is nice to have one for photo's of sunsets, sun rises and general wildlife pixs. We are lucky in the great sights we get to see as part of our angling passion.

I'm not usually all that fussed about failing to weigh fish, but failing to photograph annoys me constantly. In fact, I'd say the happier I am with a given catch the less chance there is of me actually getting a snap of it, simply because I tend to get to wrapped up in the moment to think about getting the camera out. I'm almost tempted to get a GoPro with head mount to capture a few moments, even if it would make me look like more of a prat than usual (a challenge, is that).

Ever wished you had photographed a fish or weighed it and for what ever reason you did not and later on in life you wish you had.

 

The flip side of this is weighing and photographing a fish which probably should have gone back more quickly.

 

The one really impressive fish of my life was a double figure barbel.

 

It fought like stink - I have never known anything like it. The fight must have lasted more than ten minutes... it just wouldn't give up... respect :)

 

But then I spent nearly a minute to release the hook which was quite tough to remove. Then I photogaphed it and went to put it back.

 

It was the heart of summer and the water was not clearly not very oxgenated in the margins. The fish showed no signs of recovering.

 

I therefore had to discard my boots and jeans and wade out into a much deeper stretch of the river and hold the fish against the the strong upstream current. The nettles on the bank were a touch irritating to say the least as I climbed in :rolleyes: Glad I kept my pants on. :D

 

The huge barbel showed signs of recovery and started to swim off though I can't to this day claim it swam off strongly rather than pull away from my grasp in mid water. A beautiful fish but more important than any picture...

Im basically very lazy when taking pictures of my own captures! I most likely have more pictures since my brother started fishing with me than ever before!

 

Maybe I should have taken pictures of a few more of the bream Ive caught but then as they all look very similar that would make for a pretty boring album!

 

I think my regrets are more for the photos I didn't get to take because of cock ups and photos Ive had but lost.

 

When I came back to the UK after serving in Germany my MFO boxes (packing cases) had been opened by customs and all six albums covering many years of fishing (but more importantly a lot of photos taken during my travels abroad) were missing.................got £20 compensation :angry: Still bitter about that one to this day.

 

My first ever 100lb cat that got of the stringer so no picture! I wasn't to worried (although we were both sick to the bottom of our stomachs at the time) as we caught a few other good fish later in the trip and Ive since caught and photoed many more.

 

A totally burned out photo of a carp that was special to me (the guy shot the pic with the water behind me....)

 

Would have liked a "brace pic" of a 20 pike and carp I caught at the same time. More due to the unusual circumstances.

 

But definately the one I really wish I had a picture of was the possible 30lb common carp I caught in the "sea" no camera,no scales, no sack,no mobile and it got out of the landing net while I drove into Rye to use a phone box to ring a mate! Such an amazing "one that got away" tale that I would have loved a photo.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!
