Catching a brownie in this weather is quite a feat. They'll feed hard, even when they're breeding, right up until the temp. hits freezing and then you rarely locate them, let alone catch any until March-ish. A 3lber is a nice trout. I wouldn't fancy eating one at this time of year mind. Yeeuch.

Locating trout certainly wasn't/isn't a problem (least not on Wessex chalk streams in the winter!) - in fact yesterday we were asked NOT to fish certain swims/pools as they were shoaled up!
